I watched a lot of Italian football last season and Tammy Abraham was among the best players I saw, much improved on what he produced with Chelsea, probably due to Mourinho giving him confidence and making him his main man. I’m not sure I can picture him in our team though.

Would you? Maybe a loan?

Absolutely not. I wanted him to stay, but a year has gone and we’ve moved on. We’re one of the best teams in the world, and short term solutions isn’t what we’re looking for.

He's only staying because no-one would pay him anywhere near what he's getting.

Oh yeah his staying talk can be translated to:

“No powerhouse in Europe wants me and I can’t go to America as I’m wanted on a rape charge"

His numbers are good and he is approaching time when expect him to be able to kick on and peak over next 3/4 seasons or so like when we bought Mane/Salah

Is he suited to us though.

Get what your saying, if we don’t have the funds to replace Mane and buy the 1 or 2 midfielders I think we all agree we need, I wouldn’t be against it.

Anyway, sounds like Pochettino is out at PSG and they want Mourinho in, so he might get another chance.

I don’t mind Abraham, we’d have three central forwards who all offer something a bit different. If we can get Firmino ticking again then Carvalho, Diaz, Jota, Firmino, Abraham, Salah ain’t too shabby. I don’t think Abraham replaces Mane overall team play but he gets 15 league goals and offers us a different dimension. If it helps think of Diaz as Mane’s replacement and Abraham as Origi’s replacement.

Abraham isn't an upgrade on Origi. He's an Arsenal player

Very different players aren’t they? Abraham is constantly a handful for defenders with his pace and physicality. Divock these days (after the injury he suffered from Funes Mori’s assault) is more like a penalty box specialist.

Think that says more about Italian football than it does about Tammy Abraham.

Ha. The fact we comfortably beat the top 2 in Italy without really breaking much of a sweat, likely tells you it all.

Has there been a full discussion on Serge Gnabry?

In the same contract situation as Mane but only 26.

Despite not being good enough for West Brom, his goal return is good, not great but Bayern play 4 league games a season less than us.

My gut feeling is Gnabry isn’t as good as Mane.

The Ousmane Dembélé chat isn’t going away. He strikes me as a Pogba character, clearly talented but doesn’t have the application.

Doesn't have to be, I don't really see him as a direct replacement either, he'd probably make the team better (more balanced?) though.

Hmmmm, I dunno.

If we signed Nunez and Gnabry to replace Mane and Firmino, I'd be happy we'd got the better part of the deal(s).

I'm sure Klopp and Ward have crystal clear clarity on the score / plan, for supporters, it all feels very up in the air.

The way I look at it is we have a direct Mane replacement in Diaz so if we can add another game changer to a different position then we should, if we could also picks up a versatile player who can back up Salah and play in other positions as well then all the better.

I'm coming around to the idea that the next evolution is bringing in a more conventional No.9 (Nunez or otherwise) and then next summer addressing the Salah issue.
