Steve Clarke sacked by West Brom!

Clarke would surely want a couple of DMs. One to sit and create and another to nip at the ankles. Rodgers seems pissed off at playing anybody deeper than a number 10. I think he'd play rush goalie if he could.

Clarke wasn't even any good, we finished 8th and conceded loads of stupid goals that season. Plus 4 of the back 5 were settled back then, only Enrique was added, who was an experienced player in his own right.

Not the same thing at all, we currently have 3 new players in the back 4 trying to bed in, 2 of which have never played in the league and are basically kid's.

All the experts on here fucking hell

We nee to do something because right now our defending is bad aids and the last time i can remember us being anything near solid at the back was when Clarke was here. So put that up your arses without lube and sit on it

Yeah but...we had a younger less injured Lucas, a younger Gerrard, and we had Carragher, Aurelio, Flanno, and Reina hadn't gone full tard.

I know, 'Larwo' at Newcastle is pretty much the only example I can think of off hand. Yet people talk about it all the time on here like it's a thing that works. One instruction off the defensive coach, then another off the gaffer who knows how to attack. I think the two things are linked quite closely, getting contrasting view points isn't going to end up pretty.

If people mean 'advice giver', like how to defend corners, then it makes a little sense, but surely he can just ring him up. eg 'hey Brendan, that first header you all go for on the 10 yard line , it's a trap, you always lose it and get pulled out of position..'

I don't think anyone is advocating having a sub-manager for the defence, when I say a defence specialist I mean a coach. It's clear Rodgers is clueless at how to concede less goals and to be honest suggesting bringing in a defensive specialist for me is basically to help Rodgers keep his job because it seems to be a massive flaw of his and if something doesn't change it will definetly cost him his job.

Also have a look at his time at West Ham with Zola, they conceded a mountain of goals and very nearly went down.

This Clarke fascination is one of the strangest things, it's just asking for or in some cases pining for mediocrity.

that's probably becuase mediocrity would be a huge step up right now.

Steve Bould @ Arsenal too. They spoke about him a lot when they kept a few clean sheets on the bounce. And then they went all arsenal and we've heard nothing since.

Far better to rely on anecdotal evidence or recollection than looking at the numbers.

Our coaching staff consists of Colin Pascoe, Mike Marsh and John Achterberg. I wouldn't want Clarke back because it's not really the answer but fucking hell at least he's got credentials as a good level Premiership coach if not manager.

Those same coaches coached a bunch of turds to second place and one of our best ever premier league seasons ever last year. I don't think we know enough about what goes on in the training pitch to know which coaches are good and shit. Apart from Achterberg, he's probably definitely shit.

It's over simplifying to blame the coaching. It's no surprise that when we had Hamann and later Mascherano playing in front of an excellent centreback pairing we had a better defence so id say it's firstly and foremost a playing personnel problem. Tactics play a big part as well.

I would say that with an increase in players and games we should have definitely added more experience to the backroom staff but I'd assume Rodgers has trust issues which is why he keeps it pretty tight.

It's just one of those annoying things, it's one of them where you wonder if you had missed something when you get reminded what a success he was here, and how great we were and how he'd come back in and sort us out, it's bollocks.

But the problem still remains that Rodgers cannot organise a defence either.

This may not be a problem at Swansea or Reading but it ultimately cost Liverpool its 19th title.

Something needs to be done at least, even if not Clarke.

We've conceded only one goal in the last three games Prem games. Quite an improvement.

Love all the football manager managers on here.

2 clean sheets in 3 against Leicester away, Stoke  at home and Sunderland at home.

Stop the fucking press!!!!

Hyppia is on the verge at Brighton, get him in.

So we get a man in who has been sacked from two jobs in a year?
