All over Twitter... Chomsky’s weighed in too. We’ve recently had a right wing MP (Pauline Hanson) banned from appearing on the national tele for saying racist things. RLB got sacked for RTing an article containing a questionable sentence in the UK. How big a problem is this do you think?

It deserves it's own thread. Kate Beckingsale and Cara Delevingne have weighed in now with similar allegations against him.

Biscuits. Lovely, filling biscuits. Everyone loves 'em, from the lowest tramp (resplendent with scruffy dog on a hairy string) to the highest Monarch. Poor kids at school used to smell like 'em, smiley mongrel dogs are routinely fed 'em, Grandparents have tins full of 'em. Biscuits, biscuits, biscuits.. So, what is your fave and why?

Hopefully self explanatory. As ever please post some actual explanatory text rather than just a YouTube link. I’m going to open the batting with Mmbop by Hanson, a proper ear worm classic that sounds like a great Michael Jackson song. You’ll be humming the chorus all evening now. No need to thank me.

If you haven’t played before please get involved. Rules listed below. 1. Each contestant much pick 10 celebrities who they think will die between 00:01, 1st February 2024 and 23:59 31st December 2024. Lists are final as of the starting time. I will accept late entries, perhaps someone finds this thread half way through the year and would like to enter, however if someone dies within 1 week you won't get the points for it. 2. When the death has been confirmed, points will be awarded, and the people who had them chosen may choose a new celebrity for their list. Please post replacements in this on this thread, PMs may be missed or not come…

Just watching Platoon. Fucking great movie. My favourite ever is Full Metal Jacket. Fantastic movie. Kellys Heroes in second. Mainly because I want to be Oddball.

Love all the above. I'd like to get a few videos on here and a bit of a discussion. Nothing posted later than the 80's please. Growing up I can remember when we got a CD player, only cd's we had for ages where the best of Buddy Holly, Marvin Gaye Greatest Hits, Robert Palmer, The Drifters and the best of the Chi-lites. No matter what other genres I love, I come back to the above time again. So many great songs. I love this, but it upsets me every time I hear it. Lovely sentiments. First dance at my wedding. And, I must say, one of the best live performances I have ever seen. [Y…

Through sheer boredom, and hearing it mentioned a few times, I've just joined it. Anyone else on it? If so, what do you actually do?

Listened to this Guardian Podcast before : Guardian Focus Podcast: Examining the British far right | World news | guardian.co.uk In England the far right seem a bit of a joke, I can't ever see the BNP or EDL taking off seriously. But in the likes of France and the Netherlands, it looks like it is gathering more support. And unlike Nick Griffin, I get the impression a lot of people in, say, France see the likes of Marine Le Pen as a credible politician. So, what do you think of it then? Where is it going to end? Will we see another openly fascist country in Europe anytime soon?

Is there anyone pro-monarchy on here? Other then a boost to tourism, is there any reason for your support for them and their public funding?

I'm after some recommendations and thought I'd throw a few into the mix: "Altered Carbon" by Richard Morgan. I first read this in the summer and was blown away by it and am now on my second go. It's very gritty, noir-ish SF about this insanely hard bloke on the lam in a future where your consciousness can be stored, or transferred into new "sleeves" (bodies). Fucking ace. I've read a few of the "Eagle" novels by Simon Scarrow set in Britain during Caesar's day. They're nowt special, but are an entertaining diversion. "Wall & Piece" by Banksy was a Christmas book and it's absolutely addictive. Everyone who enters our bog seems to get lost for about hal…

1988 – The Dollywood Foundation Parton originally launched the organization in her home county of Sevier County, Tennessee, with the goal of decreasing high school drop out rates. She then started the Buddy Program, in which Parton gave $500 to every seventh and eighth grader who finished high school. According to the organization, the initiative was successful and the dropout rate declined from 35 percent to just 6 percent. 1989 – $500 scholarship Parton offered a $500 scholarship to every student in Sevier County who wished to attend Hiwassee College. 1991 – Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood The 30,000-squa…

Really heartbreaking story. One of my closest friends lost her brother last week and is obviously absolutely devastated. He has 2 young kids (age 4 and 7). I was talking to her yesterday and she was in tears telling me how they'd broken the terrible news to the children, specifically the 7 year old. I asked how he'd taken it and what he'd said and, still in tears, she told me the kid had replied "Can I have his phone?" I don't think I've ever struggled so hard to keep a straight face.

Righto, might not be the biggest news to many, but this will be everything to my little girl and there’s every likelihood the next 12 months will have some shit in them, so - in addition to me putting my name in the had through the club registration, and me asking the fella I sit next to to do the same, if anyone at all has any inside contacts that could possibly pull a string or two to help smooth a route to tickets, could they just keep me in mind. cheers, that’s all.

It's gonna kick the fuck off again. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/12/europe/ukraine-zelensky-front-lines/index.html Ukraine's President heads to the trenches as Russia masses its troops EXCLUSIVE by Matthew Chance, CNN Updated 1152 GMT (1952 HKT) April 12, 2021 On the front lines in eastern Ukraine (CNN)Ankle-deep in thick black sludge, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky moves stealthily with his troops in single file through the warren of trenches and tunnels that form the tense front lines in the east of his country. It feels more like the early 20th century than a modern conflict, with tired, nervous …

My ex's mate in her divine wisdom decided to try and stage a fraudulent insurance injury claim by making up a car accident. Apparently she knew someone who did this and it was fool proof. So she phoned up her insurance company to tell them about the crash she was inventing, cutting a slightly longer story short....... Car Insurance: "ok miss H, can you tell us what happened exactly ?" Miss H: well I was rolling up to the traffic lights and went straight into the back of the car in front of me " Car Insurance: "right, then that means you're liable and cannot claim, if you go into the back of another car you're liable" Miss H "er, oh, ok". Miss H now has to conti…

So what do you think about the start to the new seies, Hoddy? I'm loving the political machinations with Burrell getting manipulated all over the place and Rawls as the new (and very unpopular) Deputy Opps. It feels like another slow-burning classic with Cheese gaining a bigger role, Avon on his way out of slam, Omar great as ever and Greggs turning into a female McNulty by the second. Gotta love the "Put kids off violence by autopsy" route to keeping the streets clean, too. I've seen the first two episodes and it already feels even better than Season Two. Oh, by the way - did you see The West Wing has been canned? Season 7 is the last one. Also, did you know th…

My son, Jamie, who some of you have met, is training to run the London Marathon on Sunday 21 April. His first. He is fundraising for a number of great causes. I don’t know if I’ve exhausted the goodwill of the very generous people of this place but in the spirit of ‘if you don’t ask you won’t get’ I decided to share his page and if anyone would like to chip in I know he’ll be really chuffed. Thanks in advance https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/james-plattssmith?utm_term=AXJXrKGAz

It’s time we upped sticks and let the 2022 thread die. It’s never been more exciting to be a fan of the sweet science. Anthony Joshua is fighting Ngannou tonight and it’s just been announced that 57 year-old Mike Tyson is fighting that YouTube knobhead, Jake Paul, steamed live on Netflix. Seriously. This is the golden age.
