We have different types of sausage in Scotland as you are aware, plus if you say 'a sausage roll' it can also mean the type you get out of Greggs so I thought I would make it nice & clear.

 

If I walk into the shop in the morning for a roll, I'll say 'One link sausage roll with brown sauce please you fucking twat.' or something to that effect so there is no confusion.

Or you could on your best Glaswegian and ask for 'a roll and sausage', I suppose

My time in Edinburgh the square sausage was always called just that, or sometimes, as the Scots are prone to do, with the words swapped around.

Nah, it's the accepted way of describing a bread roll and whatever you're having on it there. It's just weird to all the rest of us

If a roll is called a barm in Liverpool then yes, it would be a sausage barm I had for my breakfast.

 

I've definitely had a bacon roll in Liverpool though & it's been referred to as a 'roll' rather than a 'barm' on the menu.

I've never heard of a 'Barm' in my life. A sausage roll is what's in those pics above. Anything else is just some bread with some sort of sausage in it, in whatever shape it fancies to be in that day. Simple as.
