Really hope the new manager bins off the Trent thing. Just stick him in midfield. Fed up seeing teams have the freedom of our right hand side.

They would then presumably have the freedom of the middle.

Think you could see something like this against the non top 8 clubs, you would likely be a bit vunerable at times but having more fullbacks that are defensive, but still having the ability to overlap would cover some of that.

Without the ball Szoboszlai and Mo swap positions and Szoboszlai drops back into the midfield.

Maybe against the non top 14 clubs. And even then

The Trent 'thing' won't be binned off. Hopefully it will be improved

Sick and tired of constantly seeing us try and fit 12 men into 11 shirts.

Inverted full backs do not work, we tried it, it's failed, we lose far more than we gain when we persevere with that nonsense.

When was the last time a player came directly from the Dutch league to the Premier league and was a major success?

I'm struggling to think of any.

I feel like it's too big a step up for most players now.

Also

Gini to Newcastle

Christian Eriksen to Spurs

Gini Wijnaldum was great in a trash Newcastle side.

Suarez struggled initially but obviously settled to become superhuman.

Van Nistelrooy is the standout, although that was an age ago now. Came with a reputation and was ridiculous pretty much from the off.

I do. I know they were all shocking away to the Shite but he just couldn’t be arsed fully committing to getting into the right position quick enough, then couldn’t get fully back into right back to make it anywhere near worthwhile.

That said, I don’t fancy Alexander-Arnold

plus Mac Allister either as the double pivot, they’ll be run through.

I think it’s one of them plus a top class, ideally dominant central defensive midfield specialist.

On a lesser level Michael Vorm to Swansea. Dembele(Fulham/Spurs)Tadic(Southampton),

Kudus has started really well

Robben though that was years ago

Hyypia though even longer

As with players from any league, it often depends on how familiar the player is in dealing with the sort of challenges a team like ours is expected to face (low blocks, looking to counter quickly, time wasting from minute one, weak refereeing), and whether that experience will help them make the step up and cope with the added pressure that comes from representing Liverpool.

I put it forward but agree mostly. I do think in plenty of games, especially at home with more solid fullbacks you could play it.

I've seen a few people talk about Suarez's "initial struggles" but I can't remember them at all.

I remember him hitting the ground running and he just kept that pedal to the metal for the entirety of his Liverpool career.

Until he smashed head first into a brick wall.

On reflection Lee, yes. Granted Slot sets us up tactically and technically well enough to keep 70% average possession at home.

My concern is that it’ll be too porous and weak away from home and against the top 6/7.

How often have we seen modern Liverpool managers be astute enough to work in any specialist, pragmatic set up, alongside a more attacking and dominant one?

Frimpong/Geertruida

CDM

Summerville/Kubo

Gyokeres (if either Salah or Diaz leaves).

Would be the shape of my dream window.

The stuff I've read / watched say he tucks both full backs in narrow and it's the two wingers who stay wide to get 1v1s with the full back.

Then again I've also read that he plays an inverted right back and I've read that he doesn't. So either people are talking bollocks or he's pretty flexible in his tactical approach and isn't married to one way of playing like Amorim.

Was about to say that . His use of wingers to create means , that at Fetenoord he rotates his wingers to ensure their physical fitness. They also have an interesting scouting concept in South America where they scout the lower divisions for talent rather than the well known names.

Yeah struggle is probably a stretch, and it didn't help that he was in an underperforming side - but he was very wayward with his finishing in the first year with us. Didn't help that he constantly rattled the woodwork, but then Norwich got promoted, became his bitch and he never looked back.

Gyökeres has looked superb this year when I've watched. The concern is its Portugal, although he did well at Coventry aswell but he does turn 26 in a month and if you are going to blow 60/70ml on him you'd be better paying more for someone more likely to guarantee success

I don’t think Maca is an elite 6, John.

Both of them can’t play their together in games other than against the bottom half at home.

I think it has to be a specialist defensive central mid plus one of them.

His style, technique and finishing looks so much more repeatable, simple and grounded than Nunez.

Just feel he’d have scored a bagful down the stretch this season, in comparison.

He already looks more emotionally consistent, too.

The problem with all these suggestions is we bought the 2 best forwards in Portugal and probably the best player in the Eredivisie in Gakpo not long ago, and the result's not been ideal. The players haven't developed that much and they've got weaknesses.

So is that because it's exceedingly hard to find players who are complete and good enough for a reasonable fee anymore, or because we stopped developing players as well?
