Its pretty simple; we signed a 30 year old from Stuttgart to replace him. So, forget what he looked like last season, what you miss about him is simply that he hasnt yet been replaced adequately in the long term.

As far as i am concerned the midfield business needs looking at in totallity and Fabinho was as guilty as anyone for the absolute black hole it had become.

Him going was 100% right IMHO and for me it is not necessarily about 1 for 1 like for like replacements.

Fabinho enjoyed all his best time with us in a formation that we are increasingly moving away from - my view is our midfield now has a lot of the attributes it was so sorely lacking last season and we don't and won't miss Fabinho at all as we continue to evolve with the midfield and the team as a whole.

Some rumours of Jean-Clair Todibo coming here.

Thoughts @3 Stacks

I like him, but he is a bit of an odd profile. I wouldnt think we would be in for him because he is somehow awful the air despite being 6 foot 3 and having a big frame. He is strong in ground duels though and fast as fuck. He has really long strides. He would be well suited to defend the big spaces between CB and RB. He is also classy on the ball and good at running with it. Barcelona signed him when he was a kid. Didnt really use him, but they saw his ability.

Basically, really good qualities except for in the air.

I honestly don't get this.

He was absolutlely awful last season.

His passing was terrible - a big reason why we came under presssure so much, his attempts at tackling were often embarrassing - either embarrassingly late or just straight up incapable of getting ball and he was run past and through with ridiculous ease.

He looked shot to fuck. I don't think a player comes back from that - not at his age and with the high mileage on his clock.

I am interested to see what it is you miss about him and what you think he'd add to us now - as I just can't see what he could....

Agreed.

He's had a few niggly injuries in his time with us too which have probably took it's toll on his body as well.  Phenomenal player for us though at his best but the time was right for him to leave, and it looks like he felt the same way.

Jesus, the media are desparate for Mo to go. I suppose it's possibly a huge story for them, but their precious brand, will take a huge hit. Latest is it may go to 200 million.

Anyhow, if we sign two very good players today after Gravenberch, I think he's on his way. Right now,  I think it's a load of shite.

Good servant of club - at his peak was boss.

But wow what a sharp decline. Fair point about the niggles - combined with so many games and the nature of the job asked to do - he was like a a 5 year old car that has 15 years worth of mileage....

It depends on individual judgement calls. Some of us saw an improvement in the second half of last season and also think the addition of two energetic midfield colleagues would have greatly benefited him.

Anyway, all academic now.

We're not signing nobody else unless they're English. We sign another non home grown player after Gravenberch and someone cant be registered.

We have 1 non-HG spot after Gravenberch for PL purposes.

Gravenberch qualifies as an U21 player.

Except, he wouldnt have gone if it wasnt for Saudi Arabia. Him leaving is just circumstance. It was not part of any sort of plan.

And of course its about 1 for 1 replacements in his case. We were so desperate for a similar player that we went against what we usually do and signed, I repeat, a 30 year old from Stuttgart, that granted, the manager seems to rate, but that isnt good.

Tell you what An tha, if Mo does go, that's a real statement signing for the Saudis and you have to think it's the first of many statement signings in the next twelve to eighteen months. Guess who that really impacts - yeah Sky the stupid twats!

Chelsea's spending from the guardian under Boehly. Mind blowing to spend that much and still appear to be a very average looking team missing several key positions. The only question is can they get across the billion pound mark today?
