I hope we win the 2 cups but the league is long gone yet again and will continue to be out of reach with those players in the squad. Its okay to admit we have some shite players .

True, but we'd have to spend some serious cash to be near City's level atm, not gonna happen.

Enduring the Jonathan Pierce / Nigel Spacker Spackman dream team, makes me want to cut my ears off.

Got it on the German streaming portal I use, the commentator is drowning the crowd out, not hard with all those empty seats like.

If we start next season with Lovren, Mignolet, Henderson, Sturridge, Moreno and Klavan i think im going to kill someone.

The problem is with Can and Coutinho likely to leave, that's 8 players to replace!

Ideally we could replace those eight players with VVD,Oblak,Keita,Werner, De Vrij, Goretzka, Lanzini and a left back but it's harder than it sounds.

but moving Firmino to Coutinho's roll when he leaves and putting an out and out striker in his place might just make that difference against those teams where we seen struggle to find the net

Aye, we've been really struggling to find the net the season... In ONE game (City aside that was a head-wobbling special case).

If we sign anyone it’ll be Van Dijk only and that will be an agreement we quietly done with Southampton on deadline day. We didn’t even end up bidding for him for fucks sake, I reckon they agreed to let him go in January if we left it alone so they save face with their fans and we let him get match fit there, remember he was out for months and months before September. We won’t sign anyone else so speculating is pointless, everyone knows what we need..we need a Keeper, Right Back, Centre Back maybe two, Centre Mid aswell as Keita and a Striker (that’s debatable though).

I’d get a traditional No.9 in even if it’s simply for a plan b to bring on, when Man City struggle they bring on either Aguero or Jesus who are both out and out goalscorers, Utd bring on Ibrahimovic, Rashford, Martial, Arsenal bring on Giroud who’s just broken the reckon for substitute goals, Chelsea have Batshuayi to call on, a move that eventually won them the league last season. We have a broken Sturridge and a 20 year old who hasn’t scored a Premier League goal as of yet...oh and an even more broken Danny Ings and that Centre Mid we need needs to be able control a tight game in the last 10 mins. We’ve conceded the most points in the league from winning positions I think, a clever Centre Mid slows the game right down and takes fouls for pushes or clears the ball into areas where it takes longer for the oppo to retrieve the ball, we could do worse than Banega in that regard, he outsmarted our whole midfield every time we’ve faced him.

Manchester City transfer news: Pep Guardiola weighs up Virgil van Dijk & Inigo Martinez moves | Goal.com

Man City weigh up Van Dijk & Martinez moves

Virgil Van Dijk Inigo Martinez Split

Pep Guardiola has convinced his board to release funds for a centre-back in January and is now weighing up the merits of his two preferred options

Article continues below

Manchester City are ready to reignite their interest in Southampton's Virgil van Dijk, Goal has learned.

The Premier League leaders are also considering a move for Real Sociedad's Inigo Martinez, and are hopeful of signing one of the two during the winter transfer window.

City made Van Dijk their top centre-back target during the summer, but were dealt a blow when he elected to join Liverpool, only for that move to collapse and the Dutchman to stay at St Mary's.

Goal understands that Liverpool will also try to sign the 26-year-old during the January transfer window, and it can now be revealed that City are seriously considering a rival offer.

City targeted several other central defenders after missing out on Van Dijk, including Leonardo Bonucci, Jonny Evans and Martinez, but were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts to reinforce the position.

And following injuries to Vincent Kompany and John Stones, Pep Guardiola has convinced sporting director Txiki Begiristain and CEO Ferran Soriano that defensive reinforcements are required if the Blues are to continue fighting on all fronts for the rest of the season.

The Blues have subsequently made a new centre-back their top priority, and are now weighing up the merits of both Van Dijk and Martinez.

Sources have told Goal that Van Dijk is the preferred option, as Guardiola and his employers consider him capable of slotting seemlessly into the City back line and handling high pressure matches both domestically and in Europe.

There are lingering concerns regarding how he would react if he does not play regularly once Kompany, Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are all fit.

That is not thought to be an issue for Martinez, 26, who City staff believe would be more accepting of a squad role. The Spain international would also be a cheaper option than Van Dijk, given his €32 million release clause.

But there are understood to be reservations over his ability to immediately adapt to his new surroundings and handle the biggest matches during the run in.

City are expected to make enquiries regarding both men in the coming weeks.

The Blues remain interested in Alexis Sanchez, their overall top summer target, but any January move is once again dependent on whether Arsenal will do business with their rivals.

The Chilean is out of contract in the summer and while City are confident he still wants to move to the Etihad Stadium, they are concerned that foreign clubs can make legal approaches from January 1.

Although City had agreed personal terms with Alexis early last summer, they were still spooked by Paris Saint-Germain's rumoured interest in July.

No idea how true this is but if it is, I'd say if it's an option just pay the inflated fee for January...

Liverpool could end up paying a lot more for Naby Keita than was first anticipated when the RB Leipzig midfielder joins next summer.

The Reds agreed to pay Keita’s release clause figure of £48million, which represents a club-record fee, in the summer but details have now emerged of the undisclosed premium that will have to be paid on top of that fee.

Ahead of the 22-year-old making his switch in 2018, SportBild have reported that the extra money owed will be decided upon where Leipzig finish in the Bundesliga table come the end of the season.

Should they finish outside of the European spots then the fee will rise to £57m, while bagging a Europa League spot will see Leipzig earn £62m.

Finally, should Leipzig finish in the top four and secure Champions League football again, £66m will be pocketed by the German outfit – the actual fee that they turned down for the player over the summer.

They currently sit third in the Bundesliga table but crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage after finishing third in their group – only good enough for a Europa League last-32 place.

Anfield chiefs will no doubt be hoping that Leipzig drop down the table as the season goes on, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim all currently chasing them.
