Methane Clathrate? Yeah I've heard of this.

Incredibly dangerous though. One of the theories behind the Storegga Slide was that it was caused by a load of this collapsing.

Have you read The Swarm by Frank Schatzing? Good sci fi yarn, deals with a lot of this stuff.

Not into Sci Fi books but fact is very often stranger than fiction.

Just as an example of the problems possibly extracting Methane can cause, the Lake Nyos disaster was caused in a similar way, with carbon dioxide though,to the way Methane behaves on the sea or river bed.

We dont have anywhere to store the nuclear waste we already built up as it is, its good to be dangerous for a few thousand years, yes, lets be ignorant of facts then and limit chaos.

Not to mention that the very first time shit hit the fan a bit in Japan, things went out of control immediately there. Nobody has any idea how safe the reactors are when real disasters strike, that was made blatantly obvious in the Fukushima case. A social scientist over here called it something like "an experiment under live-conditions where nobody knows the outcome".

If they put the same effort into improving solar technology as they do resolution on TVs and fitting as much useless shite onto a phone as possible the whole planet could be ran on that huge nuclear fireball in the sky. maybe.

Yes, unless we radically change the way we run global economics it barely matters. At some point, hopefully before the world has six trees left and the world's population of polar bears are having to play twister on a single iceberg, we'll start putting the needs of the planet and it's inhabitants before the wants of rich psychopaths. Even if it means infringing on the freedom of Americans to drive about in 12 litre pick up trucks.

I'm sure I listened to a radio programme and the radiation released from Fukushima was tiny, like an MRI scan. I think it was a woman nuclear scientist on Life Scientific. I'll try and find it.

The radiation still being released in a situation that occurred years ago and still not contained shit glowing

Im sure its just an mri that fries the circuit boards of the robots they send in to check whats left of the site.

I did read it. That's why I asked the question. My mistake ascribing normal behaviour to a loon ball.

Dereliction of ascribtion without assessing predeliction is not very christian as my mother used to say, dont talk back to your mother slap.

Youve dried the cheese grater the wrong way now look at her lovely towel, go on feed the horse dont hold your hand out flat hes mangling your fingers with the grass and oh! The sweetness of the air.

So yeah, 40 years to clean up an mri scan is a conservative guess and Im moonraker your just scraping the sky the hair falls out then nails teeth, in the meantime im pulling out my intestines tryna lasso the moon bring it down lets see who makes it out mr skunkhed with too much moouse.

Lake overturn? Fascinates me that stuff. I love reading about mad shit that the planet does.

Apparently Lake Kivu in Congo could go the same way as Nyos, only it's hundreds of times bigger with a huge population density on its shores. Be an almighty disaster if that goes up.

Well the biggest accident in recent times was in actual fact not really a drama.

Good article here:

Excellent radiation infographic here:

https://xkcd.com/radiation/

Two weeks in the Fukushima exclusion zone will expose you to an extra 1 mSv of radiation.

A CT scan of your chest is 7 mSv.

Ah right, thats fine then, sure you will go in there and fix the reactor spilling 100 tons of nuclear waste in the sea everyday. I didnt realise 1 msv could fry robots sent in to investigate which none of them could complete but thanks for clearing this up, sure its fine im sure you wouldnt mind drinking the nuclear waste we have nowhere to put.

No, of course not. I'm sure you will be happy to host one of these events near your home next time, right? Free MRI-scans for your kids!

Or we can wait to get renewables online to the scale we need and suffer even more from climate change.

People are going to die, lots of them, if it isn't addressed radically. Your MRI scan for the kids is not even on the radar of issues.

So wheres the nuclear waste going? Surely as the globe warms having nuclear fireworks stored in lots of dangerous placed as temporary measure is going to be fine, just an mri?

Clearly these words are coming from a mouth but theres no facts in the head to power them anywhere but over the cliff on ignorance on the flat earth you occupy. Get up offa that thang james brown sed to tell you, itll make you feel better.

The presentation and model I mentioned showed that the unreliability of renewables is the killer, we need back ups or we are screwed. It was even able to show the impacts of unknown technology - say batteries able to store surplus when it's windy or sunny - and the cost of changes to infrastructure required were prohibitive.

I'll see if I'm able to share it, I know it was used by government for some policy work.

Mark lynas, when not lauding gm crops, after he changed his mind on whether gm was good or not, here alking about the viability of nuclear power, he holds two degrees, one in history, one in politics. A man who is not qualified, who cant even decide if gm is safe
