I've never watched Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad and many, many more.

I watched one episode of Game of Thrones and thought it was utter wank. Watched two episodes of Breaking Bad (was told to watch a second, having been bored rigid by the first) and also thought it was shite (although nowhere near as bad as Game of Thrones).

Gave The Wire a go and that was decent. Not tried The Sopranos but probably will. Reckon I'll get into that.

The Sopranos is the ultimate in modern television. As it was made first in the late 90s it may have dated just a little but over the 6/7 series its the standard that all others seek and will probably not get near for a while. Dark, funny, emotional, the whole package.

When I was a child, I liked westerns a lot (I still do). I remember one day looking forward to watching the one about Oklahoma or something. It began fine, credits rolling like in big cinemascope picture, great lettering, some cattle and a cowboy riding towards the camera. Imagine my disappointment when he finally filled the screen, opened his mouth and started singing. I think that was the moment my hatred of musicals was born.

Admittedly, I enjoyed about 3 so far: Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, Hair  and as of last year, La La Land which I almost didn't see because it was a musical. So, four. Cabaret was also good, OK, five. And Everyone Says I Love You.

Isn't that a Simpsons episode?

Where they get a film (Paint Your Wagon) with Lee Marvin and Clint thinking it will be violent and they start singing?

In terms of the "classics" of modern TV - I loved The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones i watch but it annoys me at the best of times and The Wire i found the least appealing, got to midway through Season Three and never went back. It was OK, but I found a lot of the time there was just very little happening. I actually finished Mad Men and immediately wondered why i bothered.  Easily the most over-rated show of modern years. I also watched Lost to the end and wanted to kill someone when that ended so pathetically.

No, that's my genuine childhood experience. The other one was Tom Jones, which my father, upon reading the TV listing  announced as something which will probably be a bit shit as "he" would do some acting and some singing, but it turned out to be a pretty exciting viewing experience, back to which I can even trace a couple of my fetishes and mercifully completely devoid of its namesake.
