When i turn on my laptop a few messages come up and i can't even get it to find a wireless network.

The messages are:

FAILED TO CONNECT TO WINDOWS SERVICE

WINDOWS NEED TO INSTALL DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR YOUR UNKNOWN DEVICE (I haven't tried to install anything)

When i try get an internet connection it comes up:

Connection status unknown.

The dependency service or group failed to start.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Has it previously worked? Is it Vista by any chance?

Without knowing the exact details it sounds like there is no driver for the network adapter, or it has been inadvertently disabled. I think that could be the 'unknown device' windows speaks of.

Right click on My Computer and go to 'manage'. Have a look in the 'device manager' list and see if there's a (!) by the network adapters icon. If there is, right click and try to update the driver.

Could be a few things though. Good a place to start as any.
