Quite clearly it`s all about giving him one before it`s too late...He got it because he deserved one... Not particularly for 'the departed', which was an ace film, but because he had been overlooked before when he most definetively deserved one.

it was a remake but it was quite different, Boston is a lot different from Hong Kong and there are a lot of different issues in the film.

It was a brilliant movie i loved it, better than Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima, the Queen or United 93. Scorsese won for directing the best movie win isn't just Scorsese's award.

These are retrospective Oscars, when the Academy fucks up and ignores a great film/filmmaker/actor first time round so they award them years later to try and make up for it.

Most critics rate Towers as the weakest of the trilogy. One and three were deserved winners. It was absolute disgrace that Fellowship didn't win Best Picture, it was the mast ambitious and wonderfully realised movie of a generation.

 

Probably why I'm not a critic. I thought towers was excellent.
