So are they releasing Greenwood outright or are they loaning him out to recoup money for the next two years. They should be releasing him flat out and sacking him for breach of contract but it doesn't seem clear.

Keeping him on full pay "whilst trying to find him a new club" according to bbc breakfast. Seems fair.

I read it as they are selling him. Heard an interesting take on Axel Tunazebe. Utd don't seem to believe they have the same duty of care to him, he's just been released after being there since he was a nipper. Injuries have killed him but that's not utd's problem. You're on your own Axel. There yet may be some scrap to be salvaged from young Mason.

They are still trying to make money from him. They are trying to sell him but if a bid isn’t forthcoming he will be loaned out with a view to his name being rehabilitated somewhere else,  and then make money from a sale next summer.

Basically they have said that they realise that the backlash to playing him would be too great so they'll make their investment pay in other ways.

I can't see anyone stumping up cash for him knowing that the mancs aren't going to play him and the potential backlash any club looking at taking him on would get.

The mancs statement is a load of shite too, trying to please everyone. Saying they believe the lad did nothing wrong and have evidence to the fact also. If that was the case why not explain this 'evidence' and if you believed there was no wrong doing then why are they getting rid.

Load of PR crap.

They will save £3.75m a year in wages if he is loaned out and may even get a supplementary loan fee.

If they think they can get away with it next summer, they'll have no problems selling him if, for example, a Turkish/Saudi club were willing to offer a fee. Otherwise, why not pay off the remainder of his contract now and let him leave as a free agent?

Rangers fans with a banner of Bill The Butcher from Gangs of New York before the game against PSV. Other than the fact that they're fucking idiots, can anyone explain why they would have this banner?

“God save us all from your Roman popery!”

The News Agents, Maitlis and Sopel post Auntie podcast is going into the Greenwood stuff and it's pretty damning of the club as they had a long term plan for his reintegration, which was only backed away from once they got wind of how bad the backlash would be.

Effectively 'He's not guilty, what's the problem?'

Classy, Bill the Butcher who enjoyed killing Catholics and organised gangs to "purify" his city in the name of protestantism and whiteness. Also "surrender or you'll die" the line that comes after "Up to our knees in Fenian blood" in their favourite song.

Maybe based on this quite damning article by Melissa Reddy.  An excellent skewering of the upper echelons of that football club.  In life, if you are given an opportunity to do the right thing, do the right thing.  They didn't:
