Southampton handling this very well, in fairness to them. Either pay what they’re asking or move on.

Taking tips from Brighton on this one, in fairness can't blame them. Genuinely laughing that we haven't just walked away from this deal at this point, it's going to end up another VVD situation where we sign him in January isn't it.

Surely we are at the point that we pull out of this deal? If £46m has been rejected then surely we are going to have to pay the £50m they've demanded all along?

Boring saga.

That or it's the structure. But Southampton are likely to need to money now, so why they would wait, I don't know. Would be interesting to know how much we offered up front this time as the first two were a fair way back than I expected.

Southampton don't want us to move on, they want to sell. But we have gotten ourselves into a position of needing bodies in soon and so are weaker here.

If we had a squad together we could let them sweat a bit more between these incremental offers and they probably would be more open to giving way. As it is, we're probably going to pay up, so just get on with it...

I love when people say “just pay the money” like it’s a fiver. It’s £4m. Even if LFC end up getting this done for £49m they’d have saved £1m. ONE MILLION POUNDS. People have totally lost sight of the value of money in this insane transfer business.

Having said all that, if we get to the final day of the window and we’re just a million apart for someone we clearly desperately want, then, and only then, should we consider paying the full figure. We’re signing this fella on probably a 6 year deal. It’s for the long term, a few weeks won’t matter. This season is about top 4 so we’ve a bit of time to get our identified top targets instead of settling for other players for the sake of a few weeks.

All these leaks though are making us look like chumps if we don’t get this done.

We've boxed ourselves into this position over the last few years and not just this window. Fabinho and hen leaving have left us with literally no room to bargain. Where the fuck is all our money gone?

Are we the only dickheads playing by the rules of decorum and ffp?

Why keep bidding in these small amounts?

What a complete and utter clusterfuck,to quote Gunny Highway.

I don't think the club even mind the having to haggle. Lavia wasn't going to start the first game, if not the first few games. Having an illusion of strength in negotiation is more important than having some fans freaking out.

That, or we're fucking stupid.

It's proportional to the deal, with a selling party that aren't budging. It's unlikely that our bid is that close to what they deem acceptable, so this war of attrition approach just feels derisory. You aren't wrong though, it's a £5m, increase on the overall value by all accounts, so it's not nothing...

They also know we’ve just sold two midfielders for just over £50m. It’s been widely reported.

We’ve recouped potentially 52mil from Hendo & Fabinio - also with them leaving along with Milner / Keita and Ox that’s a huge amount of money cleared off the wage bill.
Southampton have rightly put a price they value the player at. We are in desperate need for a No. 6 - we’ve the choice to pay it or move on to another target.
The way it’s playing out with our 3rd bid now getting rejected is making us foolish imo.
I can see why Edwards and Ward have walked away recently.

If this is a player Klopp has identified & wants we should be behaving like a big club & get the deal done before the first league game of the season.

If we’re still dragging on looking to make signings with a couple of days of the transfer window open it just shows how badly organised we are.

The thing is a few weeks of not having a defensive midfielder or a trained up DM can make a huge difference at this level. A bad start to the season could cost us a Champions League place & all the riches that entails.
