I agree.  Bringing on Firmino is like battered wives syndrome.  We know he's going to be shit.  He's been on an almost unbroken 3 year run of shitness.  Why does Jurgen do it to himself?

Because he feels he has to. Our bench last night was woeful too.

We have some good kids and good signings but too many players over the hill or finished at the necessary level now.

Its a shame he didnt have the players around him.

He was very isolated on the wing. Couple of times he had the ball and (a bit like Salah) he's 40 yards from goal and we're expecting him to take on a few players and score a worldie.

Where are all our players? It looks like we're playing with ten men half the time.

Big step up considering he'd only really had 80 odd games for Benfica at any decent level. Averaging a goal every 135 minutes per mins played and a goal/assist every 105. Definitely looking a player that should be in the range of 18-20 goals and 8-10 assists a season if he gets the minutes.

I do wonder if we got a offer for Jota that would be in the range we paid for him if we would sell. I don't think he's looked right since his injury around Xmas a year ago. He's too injury prone for me to rely on him. Like him as a player just think a fitter player would give us a better 5th option with Bobby going aswell. Someone who can play on the right aswell

One of the most interesting developments of the season is his positioning. There is no doubt we bought him to be a central striker eventually, but he has been far more dangerous on the left and it's not even just that, the whole shape has pretty much been deficient when he's been in the middle. The next step is figuring that part out. The inversion of Gakpo and Nunez is working right now but is that what the plan is long term. Or does it even matter.

Anyway, it's hard to fault the productivity. He wasn't even good today, looked sluggish, yet he scored two. He seems to have a knack for scoring scruffy goals. Like, he'll fluff a lot of easy stuff but then he'll make up for it by the ball going in off his shin or he'll score a header without looking at the goal.

I wouldn't say it does matter. Probably something we can work to our advantage getting Nunez on the fullback in the back post from Trent could cause smaller fullbacks a world of problems. If they counter that with a CB at fullback need to tell Nunez to isolate them and just run as they'll never keep up with them.

They'll also switch plenty during games.

Our front three have to be fluid, even Mo plays centrally now and again. Yesterday was an example of how both Nunez and Gakpo's movement can benefit us long term and how useful having players who are not stuck in a pigeon hole and make themselves easy to mark. Gakpo took up some prime Firmino type positions yesterday and showed how good his movement can be. Jota has some catching up to do but he will get time to do that before May,injuries permitting. Diaz return is interesting as well. Makes you wonder if one will be sold,or not hopefully.

Interesting this, he’s much more lethal when he’s instinctive.

Probably has more to do with shot location more than anything else, just looking at that. There's way more shots central and close to the goal in that first picture and you're more likely to need to hit it first time when you're that close to the goal.
