Well, the infection rate is only down due to the lockdown. As soon as that's relaxed, it'll likely take off again and those extra beds might be needed. I also get the impression that the Nightingale hospitals will be used specifically for Covid-19 patients, allowing the 'regular' hospitals to get back to normal.

Agreed, it still smacks of some sort of herd immunity policy, I.e that they've no desire/ability to stop people catching it, they just don't want everyone to catch it at the same time.

I saw a report on Sky last night where some experts have estimated that only 4% of the population have been infected with COVID-19 in the UK. It therefore still has the potential to affect a huge number of people if we go back to life as we knew it.

If the government wants to get a grip on this they need to be looking at South Korea, Singapore, Germany and any other countries who are doing well - track, trace and isolate. The media need to start putting the pressure on in regards to them preparing for this process.

I was just going to write;

Blah, blah Norman Hunter.

However you reply is a hell of a lot better.

That’s it in a nutshell.

on a side issue why people are being allowed to fly into this country and not checked it lunacy. I am not an aviation expert but I do know the air on a plane is 50 % recirculated 50% fresh and is probably filtered but all you need is one or two asymptomatic passengers to potentially infect everyone. Not closing airports , lack of PPE and dumping covid 19 elderly into care homes untested  will be the biggest scandals to emerge from what should be seen now as an absolute cluster of a mess. I’ll say it now I wish May had still been in government.

Can’t agree with that mate, she was fucking shite. I just can’t believe she would have handled it any better, she was abysmal when she was put on the spot. The worst PM we’ve had in terms of competence (it’s too early in Johnson’s term to properly judge him).

That 4% estimate, as far as I can make out, is based on current confirmed cases multiplied up, assuming that they account for either 6 or 15% of all cases (can’t remember which). There are other reports that say the spread could easily be much further reaching, which would obviously be a good thing.

America are getting panned for their numbers, but their death % is properly low compared to us, Italy, France and Spain.

If they gave a shit we would have locked down earlier and we'd all be wearing masks like in New York.  The only conclusion I can reach is that our government wants people to die.  We'll be wearing masks sooner or later and then the question will be 'why did it take so long?'.

Their death rate on confirmed cases will increase as the active cases progress to serious/critical and then death.  This has been the trend for a lot of countries.

If May and Hammond had been in government I'm in no doubt they'd have let lots of businesses close, no way they'd have unleashed the kind of stimulus/safety net Johnson and Sunak have. It goes against everything they stand for, Johnson on the other hand stands for nothing.

There's ten dead in my a small local care home to me.

I'd say it's the same story up and down the UK,  none of this are counted in the official death toll either.

A Chicago hospital treating severe Covid-19 patients with Gilead Sciences' antiviral medicine remdesivir in a closely watched clinical trial is seeing rapid recoveries in fever and respiratory symptoms, with nearly all patients discharged in less than a week, STAT has learned.

Isn't Gilead the pharma company getting massive stick because they used the Double Irish arrangement to get out of paying US tax? There annual revenue is Billions.
