Coronavirus

I actually find it all incredibly frustrating. Really makes you think that the conspiracy theorists among covid deniers may not be that crazy after all. There is a pandemic going on, on top of the death toll there is a huge economic cost and most people losing at least a year of their life in many aspects  and yet most of these governments continue playing games.

All these European pharmas are incredibly slow in joining forces with BioNtech (Pfizer) or now Jenssen (J&J) and dedicating their manufacturing capabilities, whilst they are all still developing their own vaccines despite being well behind. Russia never applied for proper EU approval of Sputnik until recently, preferring to offer it to individual countries for political reasons, they have apparently been asking for contracts to be signed before sending the third stage documentation for approval. Now that is finally being approved by the EMA, EU will be dragging their feet and vaccine won't be mass produced before September. Russia has also been offering huge quantities of vaccines to EU fringe countries and prospective members despite struggling with manufacturing capabilities for their own people.

On top of all the problems with joint procurement in the EU, there is an obvious additional internal market and separate direct deals, with huge differences between the best and worst supplied EU countries.

If you look at the successes, I calculated recently 40 percent of vaccines have gone to USA, UK, Israel, and Emirates, it is now 41 or 42 percent. The US is a small net importer now despite having huge manufacturing capabilities because they don't wont to give anybody anything, even to Canada i Mexico.

UK is largely the same, the contract with AZ was written to make sure UK has total and absolute priority in supplies, with separate supply chain and the order placed was so huge to make sure nothing leaves UK until its population is fully vaccinated. The rest would then be donated, obviously without any special politics in mind. Israel is paying a 60 percent premium to Pfizer compared to the alleged EU price, after striking a separate priority supplying deal (mostly from the EU-based production) in exchange for data, which was negotiated between Netanyahu, the health minister and CEO of Pfizer directly, according to the FT. It probably didn't hurt that the CEO was also Jewish. Don't know what the Emirates are doing, probably something with China.

They are all at the same time fiercely resisting calls from South Aftica and India that the patent protection on leading vaccines is removed, which I think they should do. I doubt that total compensation to all winners in the vaccination race, even if they are hugely overcompensated would amount to a fraction of the cost of the pandemic borne by the world economy. And four months after the vaccination started, we are still at 3 or 4 percent globally. Even if you protect your own population, there will be dangers from new waves o variants from  other countries and even if you protect yourself against that, there would be economic cost in diminished trade.

Apologies for the long rant.

Nice post.

The Emirates are using all of them, they just threw money at everything and anything.

Citizens get the AZ/PB anybody else gets whatever is lying around. They had the Chinese one there before the Chinese got it, nice soft power move, I’m not sure Sputnik is there yet, not heard of anyone having it.

I don't think you need to be an anti-vaxxer conspiracy nut to realise that covid is the greatest gift big pharma has ever received. Countless multi-billion pound contracts with dozens of countries that will be needing a constant supply of vaccines for many years. The pharmaceuticals will be raking it in for years to come.

Dominic Cummings is calling for an urgent enquiry into the UK's handling of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Dominic Cummings is also calling for an urgent enquiry into how eyes are tested in the UK.

I've heard the more gay porn you watch, the less it affects you. I was sick as a dog off it personally.

Booked in for my second dose of the Oxford vaccine tomorrow after the local clinic phoned me. Was initially booked in for the second dose on the 29th April. Only five weeks after I got my first but when I've looked on the NHS website it is recommended between 4-12 weeks after the first so fuck it.

Not looking forward to it to be honest after the headache I had last time.

Thank Christ that doesn't include lesbian porn, I'd have been dead within 30 seconds.

They had to get their logo in, didn't they? Of course the assholes are nowhere to be seen when it comes to taking responsibility for the innumerable fuck ups and deaths.

it would seem that is no longer the case. they have pulled the plug today because of vaccine shortages and it is now May for the over 50s. they've delayed for a month while they focus on 2nd jabs.

That’s over 40’s mate, everyone over 50 can still book their jab. I booked mine this morning got my first jab on the 30th of this month and my second on 19th June.

I know I'm viewing the EU through the British media prism here, but this basically seems to be what's happened.

European countries set about ordering vaccines.

EC says bollocks to that, we'll work together and strongarm the suppliers. Works well when buying bog roll from Costco so will work here too. "Give us a good deal or else we'll take our business elsewhere!"

Suppliers say "go ahead, everyone wants it and there's hardly enough as it is."

We get loads, EU says "fuck that" and blames the fact it now has short supplies on chicanery, rather than its own dithering. Starts talking about a blockade. Reunites Ireland over night without telling anyone. Looks stupid. Backs down.

Plan B is to say they didn't want it anyway cos it's shit. Germany says it doesn't work in old folks, Macron says its shit. Then this clots business. Health chiefs call it out and say non, and demand supplies continue, but seemingly there's still no scope for rapid expansion.

Now it's back to Plan A again and talk of blockades.

What's he up to?

I would have thought he would be one of the last people asking for an urgent review considering the part he played in it?

He was slinging shit left right and centre today, Alex, Hancock the NHS all got a sly kicking from the self absorbed cunt, so somethings up.

I posted earlier today that he demanded four things before he agreed to sign on as chief advisor, the fucking arrogance of it!

He's a histroy grad with a laptop and a questionable bookshelf and friends list, yet he's lauded as a genius, he's not, but in comparison to these intellectual pigmies that have slithered their way in to power he's a fucking colossus.

There's going to be a review either way, it looks to me like a power grab. He's effectively slagging off Matt Hancock, perhaps it's a divide and conquer tactic. Perhaps even showing he's willing to go down, only way that happens is if they go down with him, so they'll do all they can to protect him and themselves?

Is it? I just saw a news flash on my phone earlier saying over 50s... When I followed the link it was just one of them "more to follow". Good over 50s can get it. I'm not shocked they've got to stop them.while they do the 2nd round, it's not a surprise I don't think.

They're just untouchable. Short of a massive change in how partisan our media is they will always be in power.

Yup, the hachet job on Johnson, give Hancock a shafting.

Team work makes the dreams work and all that.

Meanwhile Gove looks on admiring his work.

This is probably why Johnson started on the nuclear stockpile. Let's change the subject. How many missiles do we have? How many can we afford now the NHS is only getting a 1% pay rise. People will feel better knowing we have another 40 nuclear missiles.

As @Bjornebye said earlier, we all have faults but Cummings is a cluster fuck of a human being and Johnson took it up the arse from him.

This had been planned for years and it's part of what Cummings was working on, some Generals and top brass fucking hated him beacuse he was telling them how to do their jobs.

There was one piece of analysis i saw today that the nukes are a sleight of hand and are never really going to be actioned, but we'll claim we're reducing our capacity down from the projected number so we're in accordance with the non proliferation treaty, also allows money to be siphoned off to cover the huge holes that Osbourne left in the military framework. In effect a huge financial outlay for fuck all, again.

Somethings afoot, guess we'll find out soon enough.
