Best Ever Footy

Some bird who used to babysit me when I was a kid brought her fella round one time and he brought his 1982 Tango round to have a game with me and my brother in the back garden.

He said his dad went the England V France game in Bilbao and somehow got his hands on one of the balls used in the kick around before the match.

I can remember it being ridiculously solid and seemed to have a plastic sheen over it and it looked indestructible. It was obviously a lot more expensive than the footy's we used to play with. You could probably boot it at a bus and knock it over.

I loved playing with that one 2002 World Cup ball, I got a proper topline version of it on holiday in about 2003 and when you caught it sweet the ball just flew. You can how the professionals make the ball dip and move when you play with a proper match ball.

Not sure about best ever ball, but we used to play with one of these in school. Used to 'ping' when you toe-ied it, and on cold days it would sting like fuck and leave a big red imprint on your legs when it hit you.

And when it burst heating one of your ma's knives up to solder the hole.

She used to go fuck'n mental when she found the burnt knife

I remember my Sunday league team had those Mitre Multiplex balls. The manager forgot to put air in them after a few months use so went down to the nearest petrol station and used the tyre inflator to pump them up. I headed the ball away from a corner in the first few minutes and I felt like I'd been twatted by Ivan Drago. Must have damaged everyone's feet as well as it felt like kicking a massive stone.

The great Wembley Trophy. You were posh if you had one of them. Remember these old bastard neighbours in Norris Green the Parkinsons curtain twitchers, if your ball went in their garden and they got there first it got a knife in it, only happened a few times as we were quick.

They made the mistake of doing it to a lad from one of the rougher families, didn't end well. The lads ma ragged the old girl around the garden and every year after their front fence went on the bomby.

They even paid for a " No ball games " post to get up on the greens infront of their house. It was used as a post and then a centre post for said bomby.

When I was about 9 I ran onto the pitch before the game from the first row of the Kemlyn and Ronnie Whelan gave me one of the plastic balls the players used to kick into the crowd before matches.

Kept it for about 20 years until I lost it when I moved house. Gutted and can I fuck find a picture of them on google.

This thread reminds me of a home game back sometime in the early 80's, every home game we'd drive over on Saturday morning and park in the Stanley park car park and we used to have a kick about before the car park started filling up before going on for a pre match pint at the supporters club then in to the Kop for it opening at 1pm. This particular day, we finished playing and there was a group of young lads about 8 or 9 years old and they asked if they could borrow our ball, gave them the ball as it was only an old one I kept in the boot of the car and jokingly said "make sure you bring it back mind" as we walked off, never expecting to see it again. After the game and back to the car, it was dark so must have been winter time and there's this one young lad waiting by the car with the ball in his hand. "Brought your ball back mister" he says, felt a bit of a twat so I made all my mates chip in and we gave this young lad a pound note each (which shows how long ago it was), off he went in to the night with a handful of pound notes and I let him keep the ball.

Cool story bro. Give yourselves a pat on the back for brightening up a young lad's weekend.
