It's something that's been bubbling under for a while, and a couple of things have happened recently to crystalise the thought. My old neighbour called around with her two boys, the elder of whom has just turned 10 so is of an age with my son. She said that he was only interested in Liverpool in so far as it humours his parents. Left to this own devices, he wouldn't even know they were playing. She could have been talking about our boy. Then there was the test event on Monday night. I got tickets for me and my wife, and when she was unable to go I briefly thought about bringing my son in her stead. The main thing that stopped me was it would be his second-last night at Cu…

Wins for Arsenal and Villa combined with us drawing with the worst United side I’ve ever seen made for a pretty shitty Sunday, but at least Saturday was fun. When do City ever blow a 2-0 lead to anybody, let alone a struggling team at the Etihad? Never happens and it’s hard to believe it actually did. But it did, and it was glorious. Hodgson casually stood there looking at a melting down Guardiola and laughing is the image of the season so far. Well, since Darwin went after him the other week anyway. So funny. I don’t really understand what’s going on with City as I can’t ever remember this happening before. They’ve dropped points, and Palace have …

Well that was easy. I wasn’t expecting it to be like that because we’ve been crap lately and the last time we played the Hammers at Anfield we had to play really well to get the win as they looked a good side. Both managers made six changes but even so, I don’t think anyone expected this. We were really good. It was clear from the very start that the tempo was high and we were playing with intensity. We weren’t creating too many clear chances but it always felt like a goal was just around the corner. West Ham weren’t offering anything in attack but they were working hard to keep us at bay so the first half was at least somewhat competitive. They just gave up i…

Report: Trio of Championship sides showing interest in taking Kaide Gordon on loan in January
by TLW- 2 replies

Kaide Gordon could be on the move in January in a quest to get some valuable first-team experience according to a new report. The 19 year-old has just returned to first team action this month playing 75 minutes against Union SG in the Europa League. It was the culmination of a hellish 18 month period for the talented youngster who has had a series of musculoskeletal issues as he grows into his body. While an undoubtedly frustrating period for Gordon, he has now come out the other side and as Jurgen Klopp mentioned a few weeks back. “So we were really unlucky with some of our big, big prospects. “We had that probl…

Nicolas Anelka says to this day he regrets not signing for Liverpool on a permanent deal. The Frenchman came on loan to Reds in December of 2001 in the quest of a renaissance after a terrible time of things at Real Madrid where he scored just two goals from 19 appearances. It was indisputable that Anelka was a striker of phenomenal natural talent, but also very poor advised Lessing to poor career decisions. While he only made 22 appearances (scoring five goals), his joy for the game returned and despite the countless clubs that he played for in a storied career, Liverpool clearly made a lasting impression on him as he explained to the Echo.(Not signing permanently) is my big…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. Performances have been very much below par lately, with any enterprising play dying at the feet of a forward line that all appear to be out of form, not helped by a midfield that itself is a little out of sorts. I feel the defensive line has generally been very good since the last international break, but it's what is in front of them that is giving cause for concern. In open play, the decision-making has been so off that we have had to resort to getting goals from set-pieces or firing howitzers from long range. Both are things that…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. Domestic football all the way until February now, and first up are the Red half from Manchester and their beleaguered boss Ten Hag. They have provided much comedy gold already this season, and come into this one with a lengthy injury list. Captain Shithouse is missing through suspension, and Slabhead picked up a knock in the midweek defeat to Bayern. It's an opportunity for us to do the sort of thing we have done many times in recent years. And this one will be in front of the largest Anfield crowd since the days of Shankly, as the …

This is a game we should be winning easily. We’ve beaten comfortably beaten the likes of West Ham and Villa at Anfield this season, both of whom are better than this abomination of a Manchester United side. The difference is that we were playing some decent footy then but recently we’ve lost our way. Another difference is that Villa and West Ham (not to mention Bournemouth and Fulham) didn’t come here just hoping to avoid a bumming. Everyone knew how United would approach the game and I’ve got no problem with that whatsoever. They’re shite, they’ve got half their best team missing and the last time they came here they lost 7-0. So they’re one and only thought …

Pep Lijnders has produced a staunch defence of Darwin Nunez ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with West Ham at Anfield on Wednesday evening. The Uruguayan striker has not scored in his past 10 appearances for the Reds with his last goal coming in this competition against Bournemouth at the start of November while his last league goal came against Nottingham Forest on the 25th of October. Despite the lack of goals, Lijnders says that Darwin is more than playing his role in the side as ESPN reported. “Darwin is full of desire, you see this in each game. “If we only would judge players on the goals this would be so unfair …

I'm a big fan of Ollie Watkins, I reckon he'd be a smart summer signing. Also, Kulusevski - we could do worse than him as a replacement for Mo in the summer (assuming he goes). If Arsenal somehow don't make top 4, Odergaard would be a great signing. Brilliant player him, arguably the best none Us or City player in the league. Branthwaite at the blue shite looks a very good young CB. Livramento at LB for Newcastle looks decent too.

I’ll start at Old Trafford where the newly crowned Manager of the Month and Player of the Month got their arses handed to them by Bournemouth. This was not a shock result and anyone who was shocked by it has not been paying attention. It was Bournemouth’s first ever win at Old Trafford but they’ve never played a United side this bad before. United have been beaten by every decent team they’ve faced and other than their 3-0 win at Goodison, I think every win they’ve had has been by one goal. “The league table doesn’t lie” they say. That’s such bollocks, the league table this season has been like a Government Minister giving evidence at a Covid inqui…

Monday Dec 10: Forgot to mention this in last Friday’s diary entry but Ten Hag was manager of the month and Maguire was player of the month for November. I have no idea how that actually happened. Other than the clowns who decided this I genuinely doubt there is a person on earth who thought Ten Hag was manager of the month for November. As for Maguire? He set such a low bar for himself that all he has to do now is not fall over his own feet and that’s enough to earn praise. He’s been alright, but alright looks amazing in comparison to what he served up before. Everyone reckons he’s thick as fuck but he might actually be a genius you know. United completed a h…

A young Reds side went down to defeat in Belgium in the final game of the group stage, but we won't waste too much time talking about that. Liverpool are looking to cut short the loan of Fabio Carvalho and send him to another club for the second half of the season according to a new report. The 21 year old has only played a total of 289 minutes in 14 appearances for RB Leipzig in all competitions this season, with one start coming in the Bundesliga and the other against Young Boys in the Champions League. To this point of time, the attacking utility player has yet to register a goal or assist in his time playing for the team currently third on the league table. The Mirror reports that the lack of regular minutes for Carvalho is of concern for the Liverpool hierarchy and co…

Thiago Alcantara has not given up hope in earning a new contract at Liverpool according to a new report. The 32 year-old Spanish international is in his fourth season at the Reds but has not played a minute of action during this campaign due to a persistent hip injury that he first suffered in February and went under the knife for in late April. It has followed a trend for the midfielder who has been a perennial winner where ever he has played, but sadly his body has not allowed him to show his true value at the Reds. Alcantara has made 97 appearances in his three completed seasons, but incredibly has missed 101 games with injury and il…

I think this forum needs a GF style amnesty thread. This is a safe haven for those who have "unsavoury" opinions, where they can admit to an opinion and not face criticism or negging (any reported negging on this thread will be dealt with swiftly and harshly by the forum powerneggers). Mild alarm and surprise is accepted. So come on, who secretly thinks Ferguson is actually a decent bloke, that Torres is overrated or that our owners are actually quite good. Let's have it. I can start with the fact that I think the new Everton home shirt is pretty nice.

It’s quite funny how at the beginning of the group stages the goal is to get qualified as quickly as possible, then pick kids for the dead rubber because np-one cares about those games. Until you actually watch the game and that goes out of the window. Before the game I didn’t care about the result or performance. Today, the morning after, I don’t care about the result or the performance. For the 90 minutes when I’m actually watching it though? Yeah I cared and I got a bit wound up by how shot we were. It’s stupid really, but I do get caught up in the moment. Not in the beginning, for the first 15 minutes or so I wasn’t arsed. But the longer it goes with us do…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. We've already assured ourselves of top spot in the group so this match is very much a dead rubber for us. I have a feeling that none of our fans are arsed in the least about this one. Union SG I think still have an outside hope of reaching the knockout stage, but may yet end up dropping down into the Conference League. The permutations for the other teams in the group are such that Toulouse could finish 2rd or 3rd, Union could end up 2nd, 3rd or 4th, and LASK could end up 3rd or 4th. The home game against Union was mundane and harde…

Sweet 16? 23 Carra Gold? Not quite, but 16 League games in and 23 games in in all competitions and things are not too bad at all for Jürgen’s Top-of-the-Table Reds! And they haven’t really clicked yet, according to the manager. 22-23 is a low bar – 21-22 had exhausted this team and a big fall-off was always likely. So any comparisons with last season come with that caveat. That being said, the improvement is striking, best illustrated, probably, by this statistic: we’ve reached 37 points after 16 games on the 9th of December; in 22-23 we reached 36 points after 23 games on the the 25th of FEBRUARY! We could be looking at 20-25 points more this season than last…
