I wonder if the mancs told him they'd never sell to Chelsea no matter what, and that his agent had feelers out abroad but no takers. No way the likes of Madrid would be arsed with this sack of shite.

Rooney's agent may just well have played an absolute blinder.  Told Chelsea that Rooney wanted out and wanted to go to Chelsea.  Mourinho starts playing up signing Rooney in the press to try and unsettle Man U, and Chelsea don't bother signing another striker as they are after Rooney.  Man U need to make a "statement of intent" so they spunk out 300 grand a week for 5 years to the fat potato headed waster.

Marvellous work all round really.

Yep, Stretford is a canny fucker. When they saw the hoohar the mancs made over signing up that jazzypants kid they must have known they had the club by the balls, now RVP is making noises about a new deal. It's a beautiful thing.

And it's working for van Persie as well.

Rumours in the press yesterday that he was about to have a "change of heart" about resigning with the Mancs, when he's already on a contract that pays him 250k/week up until he turns 33!  Now he wants Rooney money, presumably on a 5-year deal that will also carry him up until he's 35 or 36.  Why on earth they would contemplate giving an injury prone player of that age that kind of contract is beyond me, but I hope they do.

So here he is, 5 years later at his peak. What do we think?

For me, the same as he ever was. Massively, massively overrated

To be fair to ugly little fuck he had a couple of very good seasons scoring a lot of goals.

That winner he got with the scissors kick in the Manc derby was some effort. Been on the slide for a couple of years now though

I have to say Rooney's a very decent player indeed. Best English player of all time? never in a million years, but he's good, make no mistake.

If you could go back 10 years and choose to have him in your side for the 10 years just gone, I reckon most teams would. But far less would choose to have him right now.

He's got fight in him too, which a lot of players don't have. Gerrard's got it, Terry's got it, you can see it on the pitch when the chips are down... who's talking the bull by the horns and having a real go.

Van Persie wouldn't be doing that.

He was very good when he first broke through but he has been shite for a couple of seasons now. The flaws in his game have never really been ironed out and have only become more apparent over time. They must have been absolutely fucking nuts to give him that contract.
