He's used inverted fullbacks everywhere he's been*, at Bayern he used two.

It''s a Cruyff-ism that he's developed and changed as he's gone along.

*Edit: not so much at Barcelona as he more often inverted the wingers and used the fullbacks to overlap.

They aren't paying for caecido and co over 9  years though. More like 4 or 5. That commitment won't be over 9 years. Brighton wouldn't have agreed to that. Neither will the other clubs they've dealt with. Most of the players sold won't show as profit either. Mount will, but the rest won't. Its a gamble, I agree. But they know the league are basically toothless.

You are confusing amortisation with payment terms, most transfer fees are paid over 18 months to 2 years but the cost of that is spread over 8 years in Chelseas accounts and all booked to Brightons in this year.

Amortisation is an accounting procedure that spreads the costs or a pre determined time I.E. a players contract.

Payment terms are what is agreed between the 2 clubs on how it will be paid and when.

So Brighton wouldn't give a rats assl about how Chelsea account for it. They just want to know when they will get their money.

The way they pay and how it's accounted for on the books is different.

He's on an 8 year contract so his transfer fee will appear on their books at an eighth of the overall fee in each of those years.

That Saudi stuff has got to be led by PIF as the know it helps Newcastle and to a lesser extent Chelsea.

Miguel Delaney saying we are advancing on doucoure.

Chelsea will get whatever is coming when they don't meet the required governance rules. As for us we need to get our shit together.

If we do end up getting Doucoure there will be lots of bitching & moaning about the fee. Unfortunately we just need to pay up and put it down as 'being stupid tax'

I think most people are beyond that and just want it done.

The big miss with Lavia/Caicedo is both will become homegrown players. Dacoure won't and we will constantly have to deal with AFCON every 2 years.

We will be pretty desperate for HG players soon.palace won't do it this year but both Marc Guéhi and if we stay with a back 4 Tyrick Mitchell for LB are worth watching.

We got 50m for two washed up players - if this lad costs 70 then so be it - that is the state of the market, that is the going rate.

Even spending 70m on this lad will only take our big summer rebuild net spend to barely 100m - for that 100m net we will have 3 new midfielders all under 25 years old......same outlay as Declan Rice or Caicedo alone roughly.

We seemingly had 111m to spend on Caicedo - 70 on this lad would leave 40 for a centre half of 20 for someone like Adams and a cheaper centre half.....Just get them done, Liverpool....

Whoever could have predicted that a transfer window in which we offloaded a bunch of duds and signed a couple of top class midfielders would turn out to be the most depressing transfer window of all time. What a funny old game.

Yeah looked really promising early after the Szoboszlai signing. Getting 50ml for Hendo and Fab cool. Then just what the fuck

We should be all over Jermaine Frimpong at Leverkusen. Good attacking right back and from City academy so would be a homegrown player. Proper competition to keep Trent on his toes amd allows us to free him up in midfield.

Good shout and the lad is quick.

If we ended the window with them 3 in midfield for the ones we lost and as you say 100ml outlay it looks great. Still sort at the back. Even more than getting plsyed a fool by Caicedo agent and Lavia(who I think was always going there and Chelsea would have bid imo) it's the bloody timing. 3 weeks ago and it's great
