Couldn't give two fucks about what the dad has said. If you're holding someone to account when they're in most likely shock and fighting fires behind the scenes, you're nothing short of an opportunistic bellend.

The girl has been - what looks to be - assaulted by someone who she should have been safe around. The audio recording is horrific and showcases controlling behaviour and potentially rape. It's DV at the minimum, GBH/rape if the evidence is there.

I hope she gets the support and justice she needs.

So 6am in the morning some journo calls you up and tells you he has ‘evidence’ of a famous footballer raping your daughter.

Do you;

A: Immediately check on your daughter?

B: Tell him to fuck off?

C: Hang up on the cunt immediately?
D: Make some comment about him being part of the family?

I think it depends on the person's, who's daughter has been raped, state of mind. We all react differently. We actually don't know the actual words used and people in shock can say the strangest things.

One for the legal experts: can he be charged if the girl declines to press charges? How would that work around the evidence she's posted online?

If the CPS believe there is sufficient evidence to convict him then he will be charged.

He might get a caution from the police and a role as head of youth development from the club...

If it goes to trial, he'll just get box seats as guest of honour.

What the fuck is up with that club? They seem to breed women beaters and thugs. They still hero worship that prick Giggs and I get sick and tired of reading hearing about that worthless piece of shit Ravel Morrison, who the United mugs in the media wax lyrical about and his lost potential. Don't talk about him beating up his girlfriend or conviction of witness intimidation, do they?

Her dad says she has given a statement to the police so it depends what is in the statement.

If it says she doesn’t wish to make a complainant and is not prepared to say anything further then it goes nowhere. An audio clip is unlikely to be enough as it’s only a clip, not the whole incident, so it would be easy to say it’s out of context.

If she’s given an account that she was raped and assaulted, then even if she says she doesn’t want to prosecute it’s out of her hands and in the hands of the CPS as they can witness summons her to court if they decide to proceed. And by ‘account’ I mean a fairly detailed account. The CPS will, of course, take account of her wishes but they often witness summons victims of domestic violence to court.

No opinion on the dad's response in this context, but it is peculiar Greenwood would still have been considered "part of the family for years" when it was only around a year ago he was caught 'romping' away from home in Iceland with the other rat Foden (who had girlfriend and new-born 1 year old baby at home). They do love to breed dysfunction in that city; United just needed Foden to go there to really complete the set. Rashford really is the black sheep of that city it seems.

Briefly:

Its much more difficult to press charges if the victim does not cooperate. Not impossible but much more difficult. And sexual assault cases are always difficult to prosecute per se, for multiple reasons.

So somebody took her phone, found this stuff and then posted it to her account?

Then put the phone back?

Yeah, that's like those celeb leaks. But in this case she may have regrets after originally being (rightly) aggrieved yet the publicity created might be something she didn't quite understand the strength of?
