Clutching for positives, so here goes:

1. Karius looked good

2. At only 1-0 we're still in it. Should have been a heavier defeat.

3. Great to see Coutinho again.

4. Hopefully we saved something for Man Utd, when we should have one or two more players back in the side.

On the negative side:

1. Poor performance by most of them

2. We've been off form for a while

3. We are tired and look like we need a couple of signings to freshen it up

I understand the desire to go for first choices, but if they aren't coming, or aren't available now or whatever, move on and get someone else. For example, say we are interested in Brandt or Pulisic, but we don't have a chance in January. What do you do?

You buy Promes, or whoever you can get RIGHT NOW to improve the side and when Mane returns, to add depth to the bench.

You have to manage today and tomorrow, and the key is living in the tension between the needs of both. Arguably for a little while we've been skewed towards the needs of the future. Time to change that and get a player or two pronto, or this season of great promise could easily fizzle out, and how gutted will we all be if a resurgent Man Utd team keep their run going and pip us for a top four spot?

Come on FSG and Klopp (I don't think caution with the cheque book is just down to FSG). Bring one or two in now to freshen it up a bit!

Fucking awful performance and worrying looking ahead. Most of players looked like they were running in mud, played with no confidence at all and yet again short on ideas against teams who pack a defence.

Can does not offer enough as a central midfielder. Need Henderson back asap, good to see Coutinho back though.

Our worst performance of the season and by some distance. Everybody poor with the exception of Karius. Really concerned now about Sunday and the tough games following, every time we've played without Mane this season we've been shocking 2-0 Burnely, went off at 3-1 at Bournemouth and tonight.

The Mane point is interesting. One of our main flaws last season was the lack og speed and intelligent off the ball movement in attack.

Dont understand why the players looked so fucked when they've had quite a break since their last game.

And with those powers of perception, therein lies your dilema in life ..

I think you're right. The paper thin squad and the energy required to play the way want is not a good combo.

Added to that the personnel is different -- no Mane, Matip, Henderson, Coutinho (largely). Lallana out of position. Very difficult to make comparisons with earlier performances when its a different team of individuals playing like they're running on empty ..

I knew we'd have one eye on Sunday, but both?

As bad as that was though and it was really bad, it wasn't half as bad as the Southampton fans. They got annoying pretty quickly didn't they? Some of the stuff they were chanting was embarrassing on a level previously thought unimaginable

Mane is the one attacker who genuinely regularly stretches teams and offers a direct pacey threat (origi can but hasn't looked likely of late) he gives us an extra dynamic and creates space for us to exploit either through himself or others and when he isn't in side we revert to slower in front of teams build up more and are less threatening/fluid.

He is a massive loss

Le Tissier is a cunt, by the way.

All scummers are. What a fucking player he was though.

Lucas needs to go. Can is dogshit and has gone backwards. We miss Henderson badly in the middle. Firmino needs dropping for a few games. Sturridge is a fanny. Klavan was a bargain. Redmond is a boss little player. I hate southampton. Cunt place full of cunts.

Most smalltime fans in the prem easily. Loved watching a load of them getting a twatting in pompey.
