Someone's having a real laugh - shitcoat to Utd.

It's a bit small time for us to be mocking them for winning the cup. We couldn't do it. We need to step up significantly to stay ahead of them next year, because it a certainty that they'll improve.

Agree totally.

Although if they had encountered Us, Dortmond and Sevila en route, then I'd be more impressed. They literally got the trophy handed to them without playing a single decent side and did it all playing like Jack Charlton's Ireland team.

I don't see too many people mocking them, it's a fair achievement. It's just not as big time as shit coat is making it out to be. If the Champions League place wasn't a prize, would he be so proud of it?

How can you 'pity' them and take the high ground here. It's that delusional attitude we get mocked for. They've won two cups and qualified for CL while we're only in the qualifiers. They'll spunk shit loads of cash out on class players and are only going to get better. If you think they're not then you're kidding yourself. Worst case scenario is that he starts to find his mojo again and builds a great team. Ok they will play shit boring football but will they care when they are lifting trophies!

This thread should be locked.  It's shitty Karma.

They'll be in the CL final next year and there will be people on here typing "yeah, but don't you feel sorry for them?  They only got there by grinding out a dour 2-0 aggregate win over Real Madrid, hahahahaha".

Maybe. I doubt it. They don't score enough and they won't be good enough to hold out the best.

He's also not their long-term plan or end goal. That he has a 3 year lifespan at a club is known to everyone with a casual interest in football.

They've gambled on him re-establishing them where they want to be to push on, within that time. It's working as well.

Pochettino will be there in 2 or 3 years and this will have just been a part of the process for them.

If anything, United fans are the ones that are deluded. They're now all dressing up this season as some massive success despite the fact they had the manager, the squad and resources to win the league this season. Instead they've won two cups that mean nothing to them in the grand scheme of things and just barely qualified for a competition they thought would be a formality. The expectations at that club have never been lower. It's all relative and you can't compare what should be Man United's expectations to what should be ours.

As Ne Moe said, they would have bought top players even had they lost because they are still in the bracket of Madrid and Barca in terms of attracting players due to the finances and size of the club, and unless they regularly start finishing midtable or have some sort of financial disaster, they always will be.

With all due respect this makes you come across as a modern football quim.

I'm not old enough to have watched whatever the fuck "the golden age of football" was and when it was obviously such a pure game, devoid of any negatives, so I can't relate.

Come on, meaningless trophies?  Or do they only mean something when we win them?

All this bullshit about meaningless trophies. The league, fa cup, league cup, UEFA and Champions League are ALL important.

In the last 10 years we have lost in each of those finals and finished runner up in the league twice. Not once did we shrug our shoulders and think "ah well, it's a shit cup anyway:

They now have more trophies than us and that fucking hurts.

I don't know why people are arsed. They are always gonna win shit now and then and let them feel superior they have always been like that nothing has changed. They were always gonna spend big and get top players but so are the rest of the top 6. Just got to hope we are building something here.

It amazes me that people are willing to call trophies meaningless - football is (or should be) about winning trophies and as there are so few available they are all a big deal to me and it stuns me people can call them meaningless

What a lot of people are effectively boiling footy down to is:

Only the CL and the league titles matter and Top 4, so you can play in CL.

Bollocks IMO.

More trophies this season than we have won in over 10 years - that fucking does hurt

What hurts me is the fact we havent been champions of england for 27 years (and we'll be lucky if it's not 28 by end of next season) not, the fact they have won more trophies than us.

As Liverpool fans we can't stand Man Utd. It's a given that we will seek to diminish their achievements, and vice versa.

If we prefer the cold stark truth:

They are the most successful club in England.

They had the best manager in the history of the game. He completely changed them from top to bottom, winning far more than anyone else and also staying for a very long time.

They've had some of the best players these shores have ever seen.

They have the biggest stadium.

They are the richest club - by natural means, not as an oligarch's or oil baron's play thing.

They were much quicker and much more savvy than us to exploit the money coming into the game.

They are not nouveau rich but also have a large base of working class fans that are the lifeblood of the club.

They know how to wield influence in the corridors of power better than we do.

They have a manager who we can't stand, but he knows how to win trophies, and in a sub par season they are straight into the CL groups and have also won two cups.

I don't feel any better for saying any of this!

The bottom line is they probably haven't fallen quite as far as we'd like, while we are on the up. In terms of the league next season, there's a strong likelihood that again it will be six good teams battling for the top four, with perhaps two or three of them battling for the title.

They've enjoyed two decades of fighting for the title, not quite unimpeded, but with much less competition than now. They won't have it all their own way again. On our side, we've spent far too long on the periphery. We've had one or two blips where we've battled for the title, and until lately we've had a decent stream of cups, but really we've not been good enough.

The gap is closing and both fan bases know it. They are not what they were and we are improving.

Game on.
