The shitness of modern football

The Azteca in Mexico City is known as one of the great football venues, largely thanks to the two World Cups held in the country. In 1970 you had a Brazil side considered the greatest ever, also containing Pele who many consider to be the greatest ever player. In 1986 you saw a rather functional but strong Argentina side elevated to new heights by the genius of Maradona, who scored probably the greatest ever World Cup goal in that stadium against England, and who many consider to be the greatest ever player.

So you'd think that the Azteca is still one of the cathedrals of football. Until you see how they are catering for the burgeoning corporate market. It's a canopy for fans in the lower tier on one side, and the upper tier on the other.

Yeah, about a goal a game, similar to Benzema. A player that doesn't take every free kick (not that Ronaldo has scored one for about five years) and penalty, and the team isn't built around.

Troy Deeney would get 30 goals a season in La Liga playing alongside Bale, Benzema, Modric, Kroos, Isco, Rodriguez, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Ronaldo stays there for another five years. Because I despise that cunt of a club.

The argument you're using above (I agree with), but could you not use that very same argument for Zlatan at PSG and his goal return last season. You were raving about him pre season saying he was gonna be ace over here. They had their League wrapped up in March, they were so much better than the rest. Put Troy Deeney in that PSG side, playing against Championship standard players most weeks he'd get over 30 goals.

Yes, you could. I wouldn't disagree with any of that. I think it's fair to say that most people consider Ronaldo to be a far superior footballer to Ibrahimovic though, and the latter is five years older as well. If we're at the point where he's being compared with Zlatan in his mid 30s then, well, that's kind of my point.

Zlatan could be ace here for a season or two if he wasn't being managed by POMO the pigmy though. I guess I underestimated how shit he'd manage this season.

Anyway, my original point was that Ronaldo will be finished as a world class footballer within 12-18 months, and I stand by that. He doesn't possess a great football brain so as soon as his legs go he'll basically just be a preening cunt that strikes the ball well.
