All this shite about "Pace" - you can have fuckin bundles of the stuff and do nothing with it, Like Lennon in his first years. Like Babel NOW!

Babel is the perfect player for your argument but it wouldn't matter if he had the speed of a cheetah in full sprint, because his brain is so fucking useless, that it doesn't matter.

However, Lennon is the prime example how a guy with a decent amount of technical ability and moderate ability in passing/crossing can be fucking devestating because he has pace.

You can call 'pace' shite, but Pace and Strength are MASSIVE benefits... and put together (think Torres, Ronaldo, Drogba) can make a truly dangerous player.

Yep spot on, but the chelsea midfield prove that you can get away without pace and still win games. But yeah given the choice you want pace and strength. But hopefully pepsi-maxi can make up for his pace with intelligence and technique, e.g. sheringham, litmanen, iniesta etc...

Have people actually seen the fella play or are only taking Ballague's word for it that he's not that quick? He isn't like, but he's not fucking Dirk 'milk float' Kuyt slow either. He's Yossi paced. But who the fuck cares, experienced international, for a top footballing country and the lad can play a bit, no doubt about that. Hope it comes off.

Players without Pace:

Bobby Moore - you have to start with his name, it's the law.

Shearer - look at the amount of goals he scored.

Sheringham - look at the amount of goals he scored.

Roger Hunt - look at the amount of goals he scored.

Kenny Dalglish - look at the amount of goals he scored.

Fucking hundreds of others. Let's stop this shite about "Pace" eh?

The game's totally different now. Some players can get away without having pace if they're quick mentally, but it's a massive part of the modern game.

SKILL - Regardless of what else you have, Pace, Strength, etc. They're NOTHING without SKILL.

Is anyone saying Maxi isn't skillful?

I agree, it's changed - the one thing that hasn't changed as a requirement for Professional footballers is the need for SKILL.

Anything else is wasted without SKILL.

You're too black and white. Pace can more than compensate for a lack of skill... the more pace you have, the less skill you really need to be effective in Maxi's position of a winger.

You have to be VERY skillful to excel as a winger without pace.

The question we are all asking ourselves is, "Does Maxi's skill with the ball and technique/power when shooting, make up for his lack of pace?"

We'll probably find out.

Beckham has no pace or skill yet is one of the best RM of his era and still is playing at the top level of his profession and all he can do is cross a ball. Not everything comes down to being black and white in football. Its all about experience and intelligence too.

What the fuck?

Skill isn't just about stepovers, fancy flicks, and keepie-ups you know?

Beckham has plently of skill.

I haven't got a clue

Although the garage-house scene down in Brum is bouncing, so you never know.

That and the fact that if he want's to make to World Cup he needs game time.

It's a shame because I always thought if he was given a decent run and with the right application he could make it.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him do very well for someone else

He will, no doubt in my mind.
