I'm gonna sound crazy here but could we of affoded to qualify for the CL. With bonuses and everything and us having no money. How much is given to you when you qualify? I know there is money from TV rights and stuff. But it cant be that much. It's a genuine question im not trying to stir any shit or make it a conspiracy im just interested.

The money from the CL (tv rights, advertising, marketing, match day revenues etc...) would out weigh any bonuses that we pay I would assume..

Not transfer speculation, but I'll put it in here as I don't want to start another thread and people are reading this one...

BERGER FORCED TO RETIRE

Football365

Former Liverpool midfielder Patrik Berger has retired from football at the age of 36 due to persistent knee problems.

Berger, who spent seven years at Anfield before moving on to Portsmouth and Aston Villa, signed a two-year contract with Sparta Prague in May 2008 but injury has forced him to hang up his boots.

Sparta coach Jozef Chovanec said: "Patrik told me yesterday, 'It's over. My knee doesn't support the burden anymore'.

"We have to deal with it.

"Thank you Patrik for everything you have done for Sparta and the entire Czech football."

Berger, who also had a loan spell at Stoke during an 11-year spell in England, has not been able to make an appearance for Sparta since August 8.

The Czech international won 44 caps and was a key part of the team which reached the Euro 96 final, where they lost 2-1 to Germany. Berger scored a penalty to put the Czechs in front in the final, before two Oliver Bierhoff goals won the match for Germany.

Shame he was a great player.

Dinamo Moscow apparently lead the race to sign Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin and end the Ukrainian's difficult spell on Merseyside.

The Times reports that the Russian outfit are preparing a bid of £2 million for the player, who has spent much of his time with the Reds on loan elsewhere.

Voronin signed a four-year deal when he moved to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer.

However, the forward has never really made an impact on the Reds' first team. He spent most of last season on loan at Hertha Berlin, where he scored 11 goals in 20 games.

He has played 27 Premier League games in total for the Reds, scoring five goals.

Philipp Degen

Liverpool right-back Philipp Degen is set to leave Anfield this month, with Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart leading the race for his signature, according to a report from The Times.

Several other German clubs are also believed to be interested in the 26-year-old Swiss, who has never managed to become a regular in manager Rafa Benitez's first team plans since joining on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2008.

It is not clear yet as to the size of the fee involved should Degen leave, as seems likely.

Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin are also expected to leave Anfield this month, with Birmingham City and Galatasary interested in signing Babel.

Andrea Dossena's move to Napoli should also be confirmed this week, after the player was left stranded in Liverpool yesterday by snow which prevented him from travelling to Italy to conclude the deal.

But look, lets not get carried away - this is all paper talk at the moment, they have to put something in to fill up the white space and the transfer window gives them license to just about do anything they want.

Just as they stories about Benitez NOT getting any of the money he raises through sales is also papertalk.

Believe it when you see it.

We made approx £40m from winning the Champions League in 2005.. I would be very surprised to know that any of the 25 squad members received more than £100k as a bonus from winning the CL.. Even if the figure was as high as £250k per player that only equates to £6.25m paid in bonuses...

I'm not really sure what your point is...

Why Johnson is injured Carra is absoloute shite there and Darby isnt ready for so much pressure. Selling him would be a huge mistake as we would or cant get an adequate replacement. He will probs start games while Johnson is injured Selling all of these we are makeing ourselves extremely weak.

Liverpool Echo.co.uk - Liverpool FC - News - Liverpool FC reject £9million offer from Birmingham City for Ryan Babel

Look at the quotes at the bottom by fans, The echo should be saying that the owners will not let the manager sign anybody with the money.

Rafa is not going to come out of this looking good

I think if that happens, Rafa's PR machine will go into overdrive with the Nationals and he'll hopefully correct the wrongs about the transfer deal..

Why aren't players who love Liverpool like Crra and Gerrad not kicking up a fuss over this?

Are thEy getting the paycheques they want so won't say anything?

Everyone would listen to them.

There are plenty of "fans" that don't think there is anything wrong with the owners... Why doesn't Moores kick up a fuss? There are a lot of people we should be looking at before Stevie and Carra... They are not in a position to be able to say too much against their employers... While the people who are keep their mouths shut...

Birmingham City can have Ryan Babel - if the price is right

Jan 6 2010

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has been told Ryan Babel will consider a move to St Andrew's if a fee can be agreed with Liverpool.

McLeish is understood to have had a £9million offer rejected by the Reds for the 23-year-old striker who finds himself on the periphery at Anfield.

The Holland international has started just three Barclays Premier League games this season as he has primarily been used as a substitute.

Although Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is eager to raise funds for his own transfer targets this month, the Blues will need to bid a figure closer to the £11.5million paid to Ajax for Babel in 2007.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Babel's agent Winnie Haatrecht said: "We know that Liverpool is seriously thinking about the offer from Birmingham.

"We would consider a deal if both clubs come to an agreement. In general Ryan wants to succeed at Liverpool, but if the people at Anfield conclude it's better he leaves, we have to think about the next chapter in his career.

"We will look then to the team, the perspectives of the club and Ryan, as well as a meeting with the manager."

With new owner Carson Yeung apparently providing a transfer budget of £40million, City boss Alex McLeish is naturally being linked with a welter of players.

McLeish is also believed to have failed with a £10million offer for Celtic winger Aiden McGeady, whilst he is rumoured to be poised to return to former club Rangers to prise away striker Kris Boyd.

The Scot, meanwhile, is moving ever closer to landing long-term target Michel from Sporting Gijon. Sporting have authorised the £3million transfer for the midfielder as they are desperate for the funds.

Sporting president Manuel Vega Arango said: "We have convinced the technical staff this (the deal) is for the best, because we have to improve the financial situation at the club.

"I understand (coach) Manuel Preciado was keen to limit the damage to the squad, but this is what we have to do."
