He looks really promising. We could certainly do with some more firepower in attack. We missed out on El Kun, let's nok mess this up! Hopefully Rafa being offered a new contract is a sign of him being able to make moves in the transfer market. I would love a Brazilian flair player here, and the likes of Lucas, Don Fabio and Cavalieri would help him settle...

For any other club, being linked with a Brazilian player would be a cause for excitement.

At Liverpool, it is enough to bring you out in fucking hives.

Haha, true. I mean, if he hasn't even been Brazilian player of the year yet he must be REALLY shit.

Keirrison A 'Real' Madrid Target?

Speaking to the press Ramón Calderón said that Los Blancos would be making two signings soon, both young and talented players who would be available for the Champions League. With this in mind it is no surprise that the Spanish press have been busy today speculating potential signings, one of those being Brazilian starlet Keirrison.

At just 19 years old the Coritiba player has already become a revelation, becoming the second highest scorer in the Brazilian league this season and impressing with his array of talents. Valencia have reportedly being linked with him but now, with Real Madrid on the scene, he could well find himself in the capital this winter.

His contract with his club expires in April 2009 and speaking to AS his agent, Naor Malaquias, said, "We will be able to speak about Keirrison from December 7, when the Brazilian league finishes, because now he is very focused on helping his team."

In Brazil there is talk of Palmeiras being a 'stepping-stone team' for the player in order to boost his price before a move but there is no doubt that, if Real Madrid come calling, any offer would be hard to refuse.

We can't afford him, they want €30m+ for him. He's scored 8 in 6 since moving to Palmeiras

Whilst it is true that we probably can't afford him, his situation isn't that clear cut in that Palmeiras only hold a small part of his registration. The rest is owned by a company that is eager to sell him off to Europe to cash in very much similar to the situation with Masch and Tevez.

Surely the fact that he is part owned by another company makes him even less likely to be signed by a Premiership team, regardless of cost?

Seriously, footy manager never really gets it wrong, over the years their wonderkids have turned out to be just that. Keirrison is ace. Why dont our scouts have a look at CB-Fazio, LB-Sakho, another Brazilian---Marquinhos is much better than Keirrison & has struck up a great partnership with Torres. LM---Buannonotte, Henri Saivet, Ballotelli, Alexis Sanchez, to name a few. What the fuck are our scouts playing at?

Let's hope you are right. Lucas is a wonderkid in FM2008 :) I seem to remember Le Tallec being the highest rated player in the game in an even earlier version :)

English giants Liverpool are reportedly back in the hunt for Keirrison, the hottest property in Brazil's Serie A. The striker is a recognised long term target for Rafa Benitez, who has been chasing the talented 20-year-old for two years now. The Merseyside club are believed to be keen to finalise a deal soon though, as a host of other top European clubs are tracking the starlets progress - including Valencia, Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan. It is thought that the Reds were close to signing Keirrison at the end of January to replace Robbie Keane, however, a deal could not be completed in time.

Keirrison is currently owned by controversial investment group Traffic Sports Marketing (80%), and Coritiba football club (20%), however, he is now on loan at Palmeiras. The São Paulo giants frequently do business with Traffic and the last high profile deal between the pair was that of Henrique, who departed for Barcelona less than a year ago for €8 million. Tricky winger Marquinhos is another Verdão player owned by the consortium.

Currently there are no FIFA rules preventing a club acquiring a player owned by a third party. However, Keirrison must be a permanent signing under the new ownership rules introduced by the Premier League regarding third party ownership of players. The ongoing Carlos Tevez saga is a much documented affair and the legalities surrounding the case have forced the Premier League to draft up new rules - L34 and L35. These come into action from the start of the 2009/2010 season.

Despite his tender age, Keirrison has a tremendous strike rate, averaging almost a goal a game in 2009. As an 18 year old with Coritiba he managed 12 goals in 32 appearances (14 as a substitute,) and last season he scored an impressive 21 in just 30 appearances despite being ruled out with injury for part of the season. Amongst all the goals came a string of personal honours, including joint top scorer in Serie A and Brazilian young player of the year. Keirrison has a sublime first touch, frightening pace and a devastating finish, particularly on his right foot. "K9" as he is often referred as, is a penalty box poacher in the traditional sense. However, he also possesses the valuable attribute of being able to link play and he is adaptable in many formations. On this evidence alone it is clear to see why he is so highly valued by the Spanish coach.

Anyone know if Tim Vickery has done a piece on Keirrison? Not that his opinion is the be all and end all, but he is usually spot on when judging players and whether they can hack it in Europe.
