The bit that starts at 1:19 on this Thundercats meets Goodfellas clip has to be the best bit :

and yeah, Donnie Brasco is another great film, will probably watch that again soon. Reminds me of how good Johnny Depp was in Blow, and just how good the actual story was. Pacino played his part real well in Donnie Brasco too. Casino is another classic, it's probably been too long since I've seen all 3 of them. The Departed is another awesome one. I'm sure I went back to cinema at least twice to see that.

Can't think of that many off the top of my head, but here goes:

Carmine Lupitazi is one of the gangsters in the club scene

Carmela's mum is Karen's mum

Mori is the jew Tydleman (sp) in season one.

Karen is Melfi

The club owner is Larry Boy Barese

Pussy has an unspoken part where he's hanging up coats in the club

Paulie Walnuts is one of the gangsters

Christopher is Spider

Can't think of many more, although I know the same casting director worked on both the Sopranos and Goodfellas, and Lorraine Bracco and Ray Liotta were pencilled in for the roles of Carmela and Tony but turned them down.

Good effort. The only ones I'd have added would have been:

Billy Batts is Phil Leotardo.

And I think, although I've never proved it, Tommy's Mum is Paulie's Mum / Aunt. I know it's Scorese's Mum in Goodfella's but can anybody confirm this.

There was also a Scorese look-a-like in the first episode of the Soprano's where Christopher & Brendon are trying to get into a club.

Yep, more love for Donny Brasco, it's no fugazi. The book was a cracking read and there was also an excellent documentary on channel 4 a while back about Special Agent Joe Pistone (the real Donny Brasco). lefty didn't exist. Donny was actually best pals with Sonny Black.

The book is far better than the film IMO.

Has anybody read The Wiseguy? Cracking read. It put's into context how good the Goodfella's film is.

Not read Wiseguy, have read the follow up "Gangsters and Goodfella's" though. Henry Hill is a mad fucker and not a particularly likeable man in real life.

No it isn't. The credit's has it down as somebody else. I've checked.

Does Tommy's Mum also play Nucci?

That scene where Billy Batts is having his drink & says 'Go get your fuckin shine box' to Tommy, the guy with Billy Batts was John Gotti.

You should read The Wiseguy mate, a big Soprano's & Goodfella's fan like yourself would enjoy it. It tells of a few more scams they had going which are only briefly mentioned in the film. There's a few context changes in the film (ie: Tommy's role in the book is much smaller) but most of it is pretty faithful.

The introductions to the chapters are written by the author & then Henry Hill writes describing how it all went down. Most of the bits Henry (or Karen at times) write are used as the voice overs in the film.

It was funny reading those bits, hearing their voices and then being able to but the scenes from the films to the book.

It isn't Marty, it's just a look-a-like.

It is John Gotti with Billy Batts. It's in the Wiseguy book.

In the book, where he say's 'Go get your fuckin' shine box', the guy drinking with Batts is John Gotti.

In the film, they whack Batts on the same night. They actaully whacked him a couple of weeks later.

  • 5 years later...

Haven't watched it in forever, my copy on DVD was so old it had 2 sides and you had to flip it halfway through. No way to watch such a film.

I'm going to buy it next week, I'm pretty sure it's 9 years since I watched it.

9 years.

9 fucking years.

I've been on the internet for sometime and I didn't think anything could surprise me anymore, but fucking hell.

My Fav film I think. And for anyone that said Casino a few pages ago *shakes head*.

This is so wrong.

Goodfellas is a comedy and I didnt even realise it was supposed to be based on a true story as it was so jokingly made.

The Godfather originals were both masterpieces and Casino is a brilliant modern effort that deserves to be mentioned in the category under that in Gangster films but not Goodfellas in my book.

The 2 Mesrine films were even better than Goodfellas by a distance and there are others that I cant think of but will remember when I think on it.

I also think Scarface is a bit overrated but its still much better than Goodfellas. Not forgetting the Sopranos if we include the small screen as well.

Goodfellas is style over substance and I think that role would have been better without Liotta in at at that stage of his career.
