It depends what your reference point is.

I'd say the majority of the country are left wing in relation to the current regime.

If i went to somewhere like Cuba i might actually be a bit right wing.

With a name like that I doubt you'd ever be accused of being right wing. Or is that not your real name? The reference point is if someone asked you as you were going about your average day, what would you say? I am glad that we are still at 100% but it seems that in some place it is becoming an insult to describe someone as left wing. The house of commons being one.

The Labour Party being another.

Depends on what you mean on what being left wing is , i believe in the socialism where the wealth is shared but have no problem with someone making millions due to hard graft it depends on where the middle ground is i suppose Cameron and Osborne are communist if compared to the Rebublicans in the USA

I don't generally refer to myself as left wing, but I've no problem with the label.

On a related note, I was watching bits of the 1979 election coverage the other day (a tribute to some old cunt or other), and found it amusing to see Labour MPs (who considered themselves on the right of the party) proudly calling themselves 'Democratic Socialists'. You'd be turfed out the party for that sort of language these days.

I voted no, but in reality I suppose it depends. There's loads of issues where someone would call me a "left-winger" then there are other issues where someone would call me a "right-winger".

The way I usually explain it to people is with most social issues I'd probably be considered more left than right and with most fiscal issues regarding the Government I'd be considered more right than left.

Liberalism transcends wings.

It doesn't.

On a strictly political spectrum, it is "leftist" (that is, relatively anti-authoritarian). On a strictly economic spectrum, it is "rightist" (that is, relatively non-egalitarian). The extent to which liberalism might be classified as leftist or rightist depends on context: for example, in authoritarian circumstances (a Communist socio-political order, say), liberalism can be meaningfully classified as leftist; in non-egalitarian circumstances (a Capitalist socio-economic order, say), liberalism can be meaningfully classified as rightist. It also depends on the variety of liberalism in question, of course.

So, admittedly, liberalism isn't easily classifiable in every case. But nor is anarchism, for example. That doesn't mean that liberalism or anarchism "transcend" standard (if problematic) classifications.

Ouvriers, paysans, nous sommes

Le grand parti des travailleurs

La terre n'appartient qu'aux hommes

L'oisif ira loger ailleurs

Combien de nos chairs se repaissent

Mais si les corbeaux, les vautours

Un de ces matins disparaissent

Le soleil brillera toujours.

C'est la lutte finale

Groupons-nous, et demain

L'Internationale

Sera le genre humain!
