Zenit St Petersburg take first confused steps away from prejudice | Jonathan Wilson | Football | guardian.co.uk

A different take on the manifesto. Tries to explain in a reasonable way what the fans really said and in what context.

What a sack of shite that article is. It's the same as when the the BNP or the EDL start bleating that they're only looking out for the poor hard done-by white working class. That's racist bullshit and so is this.

I don't think those of us darkie types will have a problem as long as we go back home where we belong afterwards. It's just the ones that want to stay and try and win games for the local club they have the problem with. Them and gays. A reasonable request taken out of context by the media according to the Guardian.

Been there a lot, have you?

Only twice, a fantastic city.

Some people swallow the hype whole. It's a big city, with few ethnic minorities, that is a geographical and historically driven situation. As such, ppeople who are different stand out. Racism will inevitably surface in that situation to agreater or lesser extent. But some of the responses have been hysterical (as in hysteria not funny). Those ethnic monorities who followed England in Poland and the Ukraine encountered no significant problems, the same will be true of Reds in St Petersberg.

Enjoy one of the world's more interesting cities. This is what European travel is all about.
