Yeah I read that yesterday and thought the same thing, then i thought well maybe they just want to be like athletico bilbao, now i just dont know..

This might explain it better.

It reads: "There is no black in Zenit's colours"

Yann M'Vila and his family received death threats from Zenit fans when it was rumoured he was going there.

Several former coaches they've had have been declined when they asked the club to sign black players. All because they fear the wrath of the fans.

The reason they signed players like Hulk and Witsel was that they wanted to show they were interested in signing black players.

Zenit St Petersburg take first confused steps away from prejudice | Jonathan Wilson | Football | guardian.co.uk

A different take on the manifesto. Tries to explain in a reasonable way what the fans really said and in what context.

My take is however is they have done essentially what most far right parties in Europe have been doing for the past 30 years. They're masking their racist and homphobic agenda by packaging them in a more acceptable discourse about globalisation and loss of cultural identity.

Still, less knee jerk and reactionary then anything else I have read about it and as we know, you can't trust media.
