Shanks did indeed, thats why they lost the away leg - all too tired. On one of the history videos there's a story that Bob Paisley wanted to play Ray Clemence for this one but Shanks was having none of it, even with ten minutes to go he wouldnt send him on.

I know most of our cup results going back to the 60s, in this instance I did have to check the season (I had narrowed it down to 67-8 or 68-9) but instantly knew when our only other 8-0 win in Europe was and how we'd fare in the away leg. Coincidentally that 8-0 win was almost exactly 40 years before, 6th November 1967.

 

If it was 6th November it was exactly 40 years ago, unless the calendar shop sold me a pup. Just saying.
