Stop putting words in his mouth, Col. He didn't say that. I applaud Nick for his honesty. So many people are afraid to share there opinions on subjects like this, knowing that there's only one view that's deemed acceptable. And sadly, it's a view that's seemingly utilised as much as a badge of honour by supporters to score cool points than the real reason for the boycott.

Not a badge of honour for me mate. I wouldn't line the cats tray with that rag.

That remind me, "here puss..."

Seriously this is opening my eyes now. I never would have thought you'd get anyone saying what Nick said, yet alone someone defending him that's really shocked me to be honest.

You don't need to earn cool points or a badge of honour to justify having a strong opinion on how a particular publication handled the death of 96 fellow Reds.

Surely it would be possible to get round this, i.e. "The Sun on Sunday" etc etc.

Possibly but there was no need, the NOTW is over a 100 years older than the Sun with it's own readership. Whilst it's fair to say it was an ailing readership they still had a platform to launch from.

The main reason it's not named as su*ch is because there already is a Sunday Sun in Newcastle.

From what I recall the NotW was in circulation during the war whereas the S*n was launched in the 60s. The reason it's not called Sunday S*n will be brand recognition.

We all know the score but it's an area where views fragment.

I'm defending his right to express his opinion and acknowledge that there this issue isn't completely cut and dry.

If you have strong anti-censorship beliefs surely you can see that people will be torn in two? I respect Nick's right without neccasarily agreeing with him.

Sorry if it came across like anti censorship it wasn't meant to be it was the content of Nick's post before about working for the Sun that I was commenting on not his right to say it. I thought Chris was agreeing with him apologies to Chris if that's not the case.

Cheers. I don't agree with him, but I don't think things are always cut and dry. Individuals are always going to encounter circumstances where their principles need are at risk of being compromised. It's all very well saying never... but you never know when never could become an enforced reality.

Are we not going round in circles, the boycott is against the S*N, the HFSG have confirmed to TWO Liverpool players, when asked, that the NOTW isn't part of our boycott.

Kelvin bastard McKenzie is the focus of my anger, he was the editor of the rag NOT the NOTW, and the bastard is still at it now for God's sake. I applaud the people who have expressed their views in a frank and open way just as I applaud Bascombe for having the guts to do something for the good of his own self knowing full well he'd upset some people due to his last position.

People are very quick to judge somebody in the public eye whilst safe in knowledge that they’ll never be judged in a similar way.

THe NOTW and the Sun have different editors, writers and by and large, contributors. They are not the same. Those are the facts, but people can and will interpret them to suit their position. I don't read either, but then I never did.

Yet they have the same editorial policy, ethos, target the same audience and share cross promotional material and run joint competitions they are also facts.

It is also a fact that at one time an ex Liverpool player was absolutely crucified for writing an article in the NOTW. Between that time and now attitudes have changed I'm just pointing out that the attitude prevalent here was not always the case so something must have happened to change people's opinion.

As I say people look at it from opposing sides and never the twain shall meet.

After reading this thread I am convinced we have potential saints on board this here TLW bus.

I am composing the nomination letter to the Pope, however I believe a miracle is needed as proof.

Could the people with the perfectly calibrated moral compasses please provide proof of involvement in some sort of miraculousness and the letter will be in the post tomorrow.

I think you get a statue and often some sort of jewellery or plate from Franklin mint.

Crucified by the very people who are lambasting Bascombe now? I hear what you're saying but it's about perspective surely?

I'm not going to castigate a decent red whose made a career choice whilst thousands of so called "Liverpool supporters" read the S*N at domestic and European aways, not to mention the fucktards you see on holiday.
