Probably been posted before but how amazing looking was the Overhead Railway

Looks like a scene from 1950's New York

Here they are being demolished

Amazing, as I said earlier in the thread it's a shame it had to go. As we need to be looking towards reducing car use I think a modern version would be ideal in this day and age.

Is that genuine? Amazing picture.

Apparently so. I saw people casting doubt on it on Twitter, but the lad who posted it said exactly where it was taken and other people backed him up that this view is accurate. It’s taken from a big hill near St Helens (I don’t know St Helens at all so the area he mentioned meant nothing to me).

I've a vague idea where it might be but like you I don't know St Helens well. I'm thinking it could have been taken close to where that statue The Dream is (big white head).

think it was called The Punch & Judy something like that?

We would get the L3, L30 or L35 home from Skelhorne Street

That was the cafe on the corner opposite the Crown, though there might of been a bar called that in there but I can't remember one at all.

Also liked these two pics I saw posted by the Liverpool Vista account on Twitter.

That top picture is amazing. For years, going to Anfield up from the Astoria through the terraced streets you never saw the ground until it was on top of you. To see it standing so proudly shows how huge the main stand is.

I vaguely remember as a kid there used to be a rival to Ribble called Crosville with green and white buses.

I had family in Chester and if we visited we'd get the train to Exchange, walk down to the ferry and get the Crossville bus from outside Woodside station.
