Daniel Sturridge - 2020

Recommended Posts

Honestly, what's bizarre is that people don't seem to understand that a 28 year old professional athlete who is playing for his last big contract is bound to absolutely bust his ass to get it. Do you know how motivation works?

It's possible that Sturridge is broken, but I don't really think that's the case. He's not had surgery after surgery, he gets constant niggles. Stuff that he'll now probably power through because there is the carrot in front of him.

He'll be an asset this season, I'm sure of it.

There is no way Liverpool will give him a new deal,  and if by any chance he did have one of his better seasons. He will be offered a low basic wage, heavily incentivized with appearance related bonuses which i doubt he would accept.

Id imagine he will see out the last year, maybe be fit for a few more games than last year.  And then be off to America for one last payday.

He won't be getting a new contract. At the end of the season he'll be released with our thanks for his service. It will be cordial, but nothing more.

Where did I say we'd be the ones offering him a new contract? Considering his age, he's looking for a last good contract with any decent European club. He isn't gonna get that if he doesn't make an impact this season, hence the motivation.

Should it take him entering the final year of his contract as motivation to turn out more often for the club.....

Err, obviously, yes. Are you just suddenly realizing that money and uncertainty about where your next job might be are motivating factors?

Are you only just realising he wasn't particularly arsed until entering the last year of a bumper contract? Maybe more motivation throughout his contract might have seen him off the treatment table more often.
