'Once Were Warriors' was powerfully moving....and bleak.

 

It is, but it could have actually been worse.  In the book Jake the Muss doesn't batter the uncle for doing that to his daughter.  Because it was him that did it.

 

It caused great controversy because it actually lent an immoral beast a moral position that he didn't deserve.  So his beatings etc maybe don't look as bad.  He's become a bit of a cult hero and he never should have.
