Rumours Milner wants a signing on fee of 10-12m and 180k a week from any club he joins. James bloody Milner! Football is fucked

We won't pay anything like that.

The owners have spent most of their time here reducing the wage bill.

No chance will we sign a 29 year old on a 180k a week contract.

I honestly believe with Milner it is more about him starting games etc.

Do you really think we will make a better offer than City?

I've met so many players over the years, most think they've made it just signing for Liverpool. We don't need anymore players who want £180k a week, we need hungry players who want to play for Liverpool.

Aston Villa level.

The problem is these players are few and far between.

Luis Suarez, in this day and age was a one in a billion deal for us.

You either have to pay top fees and wages like City did with Aguero,Toure and Silva or you have to take chances on budget players like Ings improving significantly.

I am sure there are tens of thousands of players that are hungry enough to play for Liverpool, but are they actually good enough?

Rickie Lambert was over the moon to sign for us, but hasn't been up to it. Despite the obvious hunger and desire, the quality wasn't there. Not for what is expected here.

Mario Balotelli by contrast has all the ability, but almost no hunger, desire or the concentration to make it as a top level player.

Under the current regime we will not go much higher than we are now. If anything I'd expect us to fall further behind.

Milner is a good, solid signing. The fact that the majority of Manchester City fans are gutted that he's leaving is surely testament to that?

When you look at the signing in isolation its not bad. Hes a good solid player.

But hes coming into competition with Henderson, Allen, Lucas and Can for central midfield.

On that basis I think everyone's thinking unless we sign a really good midfielder we're going to have a fairly bog standard middle.

He's shite.

I would be very suprised if he´s shite here. In fact I think the only reason anybody really considered him shite is mostly because his name is James Milner and he´s boring as fuck.

I´m not usually on board with this often utilised football cliche but I really do believe if his name was Juan Milninho people would be a lot happier about this.

No, he won´t set the world on fire but I see him as being something of a Dirk replacement, something we´ve sorely lacked since he left. Could end up bieng a bit of a cult hero IMO.

He's a decent player, Milner. But probably better in the City squad, despite it being much better than ours. He's the solid utility player to balance out the flashy cunts. We could do with some flashy cunts (that aren't shit).

Also, despite him being quite good in several positions he doesn't excel at any. Wide left for us? I guess it depends on which of our 46 formations we're playing.

Milner might not be someone that scares the opposition when they look at the team sheet but he'll make us a much harder team to beat with his work rate alone.

Theres a semblance of a plan forming here, flood the midfield with hard working players, if Rodgers can get Milner, Henderson and Lallana pressing relentlessly then it may stop our defence from looking like something out of the Australian A-League.

Hard working is bollocks though isn't it?

Any manager who can't get professional players to try is obviously a bit shit.  Most of all hard work without structure and purpose is just running around like an idiot.

Get quality footballers, set them up to play well together and win stuff.

Get a lot of hard working players with a fairly mediocre range of skills and come mid table.

For example, Barcelona have Busquets, Rakitic and Iniesta in midfield, along with 3 forwards and 2 attacking fullbacks and a centre midfielder in defence.  They've conceded 21 goals in 38 games in La Liga.

Where are the hardworking runners to protect the defence there?

The vast majority of La Liga forward lines are shite, and most of the time said opponents are too busy having their equally shite defence terrorised by the best strikeforce in the world to really put proper pressure on Barca.

What about our defence the season before last then when the opposition were being terrorised by Suarez and Sturridge?  Nowt to do, so we didn't concede any goals?

To be fair though, we were destroyed by Aston Villa, not long ago. We'll reach their level with some signings and that will be our level under FSG for the next seasons.

One game.. Don't be overly dramatic. we're a better team than Villa, but long way off top four.

He is a better player than Allen, and he is a better player than Lucas. For very little outlay, he is an upgrade on two of our current midfielders. Obviously if he turns out to be 'the big signing' this summer, then it is less than thrilling, but in itself it is a good thing, in my view.

Liverpool also retain an interest in the Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke but are not prepared to pay the £32.5m buyout clause in the Belgian’s contract.

The Villa manager, Tim Sherwood, said in the aftermath of the club’s FA Cup final defeat on Saturday that Benteke would not be permitted to leave for less than that sum, however Liverpool hope that they can persuade Villa to sell him for less.

So we'll get him for £25-28m and then we're supposed to be happy because we haven't paid 32.

What's the point of signing a slightly above average 29 year old on stupid wages? Milner is an expectations game winner, people expect him to be awful but he isn't he does a job as a utility man. So now it has swung the other way. We don't need utility men we need specialists who are top players in their own position.

He'll be held up as a major signing and it just blows my mind how poor this club is now at everything it does.

Milner's a very average centre mid. It's why city never play him there.

He's a very good Kuyt/Henderson esque workhorse pressing from the front which he won't do in centre mid. I can just see a Henderson/Milner two man midfield when neither of them are good there.

We need a DM to partner Can, play Milner on the right and buy a couple of quality forwards. But Milner would stay at City to play wide and Rodgers won't buy a DM.

Milner is not as good as Lucas as a DM and Allen is better on the ball. Milner is all work rate with flashes of quality. I.e. Henderson.

We are a better team than villa with a fit and firing Sturridge and when Gerrard was still up to the job. We are a better team than Villa when we can be arsed which seems to be becoming less frequently. Without either and with the shite we have bought and look like being in for plus the malaise that has set in amongst our side i wouldn't be so sure we are that much better than them.

We will probably give them 30m for that carthorse they have up front and they will use it to improve themselves whilst he scores 5 league goals for us.

Just read this on the Guardian website:

"Milner, Ings, Nathaniel Clyne, the Southampton right-back who has been subject of a £10m bid from Liverpool, and Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke are all transfer targets that have been agreed with Rodgers"

It's so depressing, it's like the limit of our ambition is finishing 6th again, whilst spending ridiculous amounts of money in the process. We're a shambles, an utter fucking shambles.

Can't see Villa budging from the £32.5m for Benteke so hopefully that will force us to look for someone else.

If we pay that, then we're fucking bonkers.
