No no no! Golden rule, never buy a watch made by a fashion house (see also never buy trainers made by a tennis company e.g. Sergio Tacchini, Lacoste, Fila, Ellesse etc). Boss watches are Swiss made.

I'm not arsed how it performs. It just looks Boss.

Nah, panerai are just fashion watches mate. Mostly bang average ETA movements that you can buy for $99 and packaged in a nice looking watch.

Not for me.

A proper watch maker makes their own movements, Rolex, Patek, Hublot, Omega, Audmars Piquet etc.

I'd buy an old vintage Panerai from the 50s though, when they had Rolex movements. Them fellas are worth a fortune now.

Hublot only started making their own movements in 2009 because ETA have stopped (or tried to) supplying any manufacturer outside the Swatch group. Omega uses ETA, though they are an offspring of Omega.

Even Patek have used and still use other movements.

In my opinion the best watchmaker is Jaeger Lecoultre, who actually supply parts and movements to Patek and others, and is what a lot of Swiss watchmakers actually wear because they can't afford the stratospheric prices for Audemars, Vacheron or Patek.

That said Hublot did exactly the right thing in investing in movements. Nomos is another, though not Swiss that are excellent as well.

After a decent 'everyday' watch with a black leather strap, something not shit but not too expensive either. My Tissot is really heavy so something not too big either. What are people's thoughts on decent watch makes at the £50-150 price level?

I'm torn between these at the moment:

This looks nice but a bit of a hand cannon.

Check out MVMT website mate. They make some nice, affordable daily beaters.

Yeah, Timex watches are decent, as are Swatch and Braun.

I've actually gone for this because I can get it for £60. I would rather have a 'proper' watch make but I'll see what it feels like then get rid if I don't like it. As I say, it's only for everyday wear, something light on the wrist and something that I won't be gutted about if it gets bust.
