Rodgers today saying that Skrtel is going nowhere.

"Skrtel is certainly a player we want to keep and we have no ideas of selling him. He is an important member of our group."

Just adds another £2m to the asking price.

Don't read anything into these statements, it's perfectly obvious that he's available for the right price.

If Skrtel is staying, then that means Coates is going and won't bring in too much - in that case i'd like Llori and I would accept Douglas, or Lescott even. I wonder if we could use Assidi in part exchange with Di Vrij?

I think Rodgers has already said that we have no further interest in De Vrij mate. He was looked at, by scouts and the Boss, but the decision has been made to look at other targets.

He could also be a makeweight if we moved for Erikssen. Not that I'm too enamoured by the idea of him, just hasn't stood out.

Mind you, there was little evidence to suggest Coutinho would be this ace as well.

That is a shame - I quite like the look of him, and at 23 is young enough to improve. I like Matip from Shalke as well.

Actually, I want Eriksen.

I was watching a youtube vid of Victor Fischer's goals for Ajax and he didn't impress me, it was the Ajax number 8 who caught my eye with his assists. Lo and behold, Eriksen. I thought it was De Jong but was wrong.

The only problem is Coutinho. And then, if your answer is "play them both", then you're boxing yourself into a corner because if you lose either of them then your 'system' is exposed for the lie it is, because you are just simply reliant on two genius' playing together.

I mean, we could play 4321, with Eriksen/Suarez/Coutinho taking it in turns to play in the '2' behind either Sturridge or Borini. Which, I suppose, does look like it has some depth. Not much, but some.

At the end of the day though, all the attacking play is for nought if we continue to concede like we have all season.

Very tasty. Not a secret, but gettable. That said, I'd rather spend a hefty wedge on our defence.

Commercially quite a decent move, too. O_o

If we did get Eriksen then I would only see Ince (for some reason I am just assuming he is coming) as another attacker, with the usual front 3, and Ince, Sterling and Downing as cover for the wide areas - may Ibe if he continues his improvement.

If Coutiniho moves to the centre then I would like a solid, pacey wide player someone like Belhanda might be an option.

Good one Brendan. Perhaps you may allow me just one question then. If that IS the case, why the fuck has a retiring, 83 year old Jamie Carragher been playing ahead of him for the last how many weeks is it now?

Because he's a far better player than Skrtel.

Skrtel will probably be sold any way.

With all these attacking players getting linked and finding a way to get them into the starting line up i suggest bringing back the christmas tree formation...

.............................Reina........................

....................Skrtel..........Agger...............

..........Gerrard.........Lucas........Eriksen......

...Ince..Suarez..Sturridge..Coutinho..Sterling..

Depending on who we sign etc, give it a go Brandan!

Wouldn't harm us to trade Borini for Kone either.

If Wigan go down I think Kone would be an excellent signing for us, not as a replacement for Borini, but just as another option. Currently we have 3 strikers in our squad, personally I think you need to have four. If I thought it was any way realistic I'd suggest Lukaku...but we'd have no hope there. I think we'd sign Kone relatively cheaply and I think he'd definitely score goals and give us a slightly different option up front.

I'd agree with nearly all that. Lukaku is going to be something special if he continues his current progress. Next to no chance with that. With Kone I think the chance is there right now to get a player, possibly from the Championship, that is a proven goalscorer and a quality player to boot. As long as we didn't get Whelan'd he'd be a value for money solid squad option. Maybe not title winning quality but we desperately need depth and it's unlikely anyone in the Champions League would want him either. Our bench has been nothing short of appalling for a few years now. We're lucky that long-term injuries in general have been on the low side. With Borini I have no idea what he can achieve, we really haven't seen him very much and when we have he hasn't looked up to much. I think at the very least we may need to send him out on loan somewhere where he'll play as a striker for a while so we can take a better look at where he is.
