He should have been let go back in 2012 when it was clear the injuries had fucked him to the point where he was no use anymore.

Since weve been stupid enough to hang onto him, not buy a dm and start shipping 50 goals a season allowing him to stay ten years, then yup he 'deserves' a testimonial.

2012 is being very generous. We should've got rid of him in 2008. We've won one trophy at the club since he's been a regular and that's no coincidence.

We won one trophy with Suarez at the club too. And how many did we win with Torres in his pomp? None?

They were here for 3 and a half seasons respectively, not 10. Also you know for a fact that they weren't the ones responsible for our shortcomings.

Neither was Lucas.

He wasn't the of the standard we wanted but he was the ultimate pro, never gave anything less than 100% and never once complained.

10 years dedicated service to the club deserves a testimonial.

We're in agreement about acknowledging his dedicated service to the club, and absolutely he deserves a testimonial. Just not his culpability in terms of our demise. I also include Glen Johnson and many others in that, it's not just about Lucas.

I'd look at owners and managers before players when judging our demise.

Can only afford shite? Guess what we buy?

Of course, the owners and managers were also complicit in our demise. But Lucas was the one constant in those sides. A midfield that formally consisted of Alonso, Sissoko and Mascherano became Lucas, Poulson and Meireles and then became Lucas, Spearing and Adam.

Did Mascherano win a trophy with us?

If the question is: "Should the club give him one?" The answer is yes

If the question is: "Does he actually deserve one?" The answer is not really.

Of course he deserves one. A decade of service to the club qualifies him, unquestionably.

We're going around in circles here. The answer is no, but he was a magnificent player for us and played in a Champions League final before becoming a lynchpin in the greatest club side, arguably of all time, and winning everything there was to win.

Now parallel that with Lucas.

Your point re trophy wasn't very good then was it?

10 years of loyal uncomplaining service. Similar to Kuyt, a great example to the rest of them. Strikes me as a smashing lad and gave everything within his talents and fought back through several injuries. Of course the lad should have a testimonial... with the proviso all profits go to a charity of his choice whether that be here or Brazil. Good luck to him in his future endeavours.

Its not that Ming is good enough its that Heaton is a journeyman thats no better and would costs upwards of 15ml being English.

Anyway id keep Lucas if he wants to stay. He seems to be the guy that gets all the South American lads to gell off the field

yeah, similar to Kurt on many levels.

The fact is, if a player is at the club for 10 years, they qualify for a testimonial.  He can do what he wants with the money, but from what I know of him he seems a lovely guy and would  put it to good use.

He is as good a club servant as footballers are going to get now, and in terms of LFC players you can look at and think "Top fella, him". It's full of absolute cunts, bellends, beige non-entities and absurdly rich spoilt children. Compared to them Lucas is a prince among men.

The days of 10 year stints are almost entirely over and he's just been a stellar pro for us, whatever anyone thinks of his ability. He's dug in through being stuck behind the best midfield in the world, getting booed, finally cracking it, winning the crowd over only to get a cunt of an injury and be out for a year, missing the one trophy we won while he was here due to it, playing under 5 different managers, one of whom can eliminate the blind spot without recourse to wing mirrors and came through sharing a midfield with Jay Spearing without losing a fucking eye amid all the pointing.

He's exactly what you want in a pro in an era when you don't really get them like that anymore. Okay it's law of diminishing returns and he doesn't measure upto the better players of even our lesser great times, but if we don't celebrate and show gratitude to how someone like Lucas has conducted himself in the club's name in this entitled, mercenary, soft shite era we all have to fucking tolerate now, we likely never will to a player again.

He deserves one just for the unlucky montage.
