loads more games with the same squad, as the only signings they made were keeping last years loaners and sign a couple of young players on long term deals.

It's quite a rapid decline, although it's still early days. They had a chance at 4th close enough to the end of last season. They still had an outside chance when they "played" City in fact. They'll be lucky to finish above 9th at this rate. I saw them play in Europe a couple of times and they looked pretty good too. Seems a bit more fundamental than more games from things I've read, think Martinez is coming under a bit of scrutiny among the fanbase, Lukaku not really doing it won't help but could it be a tactical problem, not scoring goals and conceding a decent amount, etc. Quite a lot of similarities with our position but we lost our best player so it's easier to explain

The Europa League was never going to do them any favours, not with their squad, they spunked all their summer cash on a player they already had so they didn't really strenghten their squad over the summer.

 

Also Martinez is as clueless as Rodgers when it comes to the defensive side of the game, he was fortunate with the solid base he inherited.
