That was my first thought, but hasn't he already been their manager?

Have recollections of him being hated there from minute one as he's a Geordie, and admitting it was a massive mistake taking the job.

Only ever one defeat away from mutiny the first time round, imagine going back again.

Yes, not that long ago either. Sacked him in 2011.

2 year contract, bags of confidence from the F.A. What a fucking shambolic bunch of cretins, to think the cunts earn a fortune to make such decisions. Never mind, Britain first will be happy that the new manager is English, although his parents were Scottish............

I can't stand the cunt but his job, primarily, is to get 11 English players performing reasonably well together for a handful of games every 2 years. A cabinet full of trophies isn't a pre-requisite for that, nor is being a tactical genius.

Well not exactly, unless you think qualification is unnecessary.

They breezed through qualification with a perfect record under Hodgson, who is shitter than Allardyce.

That doesn't mean they'll breeze through again, different teams bring different challengers, also the gap in football is narrowing at international level. You are always going to get one whipping boy in each group but the rest are more than capable of taking points off the so called big boys at home, look at the results some achieved during the last qualifying stages for Euro 2016.

England have Slovakia, Scotland, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta. They should qualify, but those top 3 teams are all capable of an upset, especially Scotland who will up their game by 100%.

Those teams have much worse players than England and managers no better (probably much worse) than Allardyce.

I'm not convinced managers matter as much English football fans like to think anyway (the cult of manager certainly doesn't seem to be as strong in Spain, for example).

The Champions League has more in common with international football than domestic leagues and recent winners include:

Zidane - 6 months into his managerial career

Enrique - Whose managerial career was going nowhere until he got the Barca job off the back of his playing career and then promptly won the treble

Di Matteo - Who couldn't get a job managing my local Tesco at this point

And then you had Avram Grant being a penalty shootout from winning it as well.

If Allardyce can get the players performing to anywhere close to their ability and with any semblance of cohesion at a major tournament then he'll do fine, given how low expectations are right now.

You conveniently forget that those teams you mentioned at CL level had expensively assembled squads. Allardyce will be fishing in a smaller pool as far as talent goes and his managerial record is shite, no point dressing it up otherwise.

As for the bit in bold, we'd still be fucking shite.

Each to their own.
