I remember in the covid season, we kept trying to play "our"way with unsuitable players. In that instance, it was midfielders playing centre back. Eventually we put proper centre halves in, in williams and philips, dropped the line to cover them better and won 8 out of 10 games.

Now the unsuitable players are our actual midfielders as a collective. We need to drop the line and drop them back further which will help both defence and midfield. We need to start grinding out wins and playing more on the counter, especially away from home, if we're to have any chance of a chance of going for top 4 when and if virgil, jota and Diaz get back.

Gutted Bobby seems to be out for an extended period. Really reduces our options up front. Not ideal that Darwin is out, but with Bobby there Gakpo could have played his favoured position. Plus point from his first appearance for us was that he seemed more capable of finding space between the lines than I thought he would against PL opposition. If Darwin is fit/had been fit, I would have liked to see him on the LW and Gakpo in the middle.

Come to think of it, I kind of expect him to be played as a false 9 tomorrow with our current predicament, with the much-maligned Ox playing LW. Not ideal, we need a clean sheet if we're going to get something I'm afraid.

A bit depressing, but the best news for tomorrow is probably that Trossard is out, he loves a goal (or 3) against us.
