I went for Branston out of the choices but the real choice for me would probably be the Newcastle cheese mix of strong Chedder with salad cream, grated carrot and grated red onion. In a stottie obviously. It's the stuff of dreams and I still miss it.

We knew some people at the caravan site we were on from one of the villages on the outskirts of Newcastle years back and  they used to speak of such delicacies.

They brought some down with them ready filled from a little bakery were they were from and they were spot on, really nice.

Haha. I wasn’t advocating having egg and cheese in a sandwich, I was just giving examples of pickled food, of which egg is one. However, I see no reason why egg and cheese wouldn’t work as a sandwich filling, given that people have egg and cheese salads. Plus, poached egg on cheese on toast is incredibly good.
