Wiley should be kicked off Twitter for his vile rantings.

But, this 48 hour walkout stuff is a bit hypocritical. Why is Wiley the straw that broke the camel's back? Twitter has been a platform for tolerated racism for ages. Why no walkout before? Does that send out an implicit message that the racism that went before Wiley wasn't as important? Also, it's funny to see people who've indulged in Twitter racism themselves now saying that they want to send out a message to Twitter.

Racism, y'all!

I see that ice cream has been cancelled now. Add that to the massive list that includes Nike, Walkers Crisps and T.M. Lewin shirts (or any other product that Gary Lineker endorses) and Greggs bakery.

Yet, the right will no doubt still have the audacity to whinge about "cancel culture."

That bastion of the right wing Nick Cave.

It could be argued cancel culture protects Dolly Parton here, rather than she is the victim of it (I am not going into how offensive this persons comments were, but arguing that would be an example of cancel culture, you make a comment, lose your job, not you make a comment, someone creates a hashtag against you or your comments).

After 15 seasons and 123 episodes of voicing an ornery redneck squid as part of the Adult Swim animated Series Squidbillies on Cartoon Network, voice actor, guitar player, and comedic country musician Stuart D. Baker—also known as Unknown Hinson—is out. The voice behind Early Cuyler—who was the main character of the show—made multiple insensitive comments toward Dolly Parton and minorities on August 13th in connection to Black Lives Matter.

“We are aware of the extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts made late last week by Stuart D. Baker,” said show creators Jim Fortier and Dave Willis in a statement. “The views he expressed do not reflect our own personal values of the show that we and many others have worked hard to produce over the past 15 years. For those reasons, production of ‘Squidbillies’ will continue without Mr. Baker, effective immediately.”

You have a very questionable outlook on these things.

Is he? Not sure I'd keep my job if I published or promoting comments as misogynistic as that regardless of public pressure, let alone the suggestions of racism (which, from what I've seen, are mainly arising from conflation of a protest movement and black people in general - which isn't completely unreasonable, but not sure it's entirely fair).

Anyway, ultimately it's a case of "idiot loses job". A huge part of that type of comedy rests on it being ironic, so saying that kind of thing in earnest is a real threat to the company. Not shocking he was let go.

Fortunately for poor Stu, he has plenty of other revenue streams which I'm sure a lot of other idiots will now be happy to support.

Not sure how Dolly Parton is being protected by cancel culture?

It would seem that Stuart Baker is a victim of it though.

In a sense that if you make a comment against her, in this example of her coming out with a popular view, there will be some backlash, against you. It was a reference to the initial NT's post on this.

Incidentally, the article argues Billboard made her comments a bit more pro BLM than they actually were.

Not really a comment though was it.

“So, now this freak tittied, old Southern bimbo is a BLM lover? Remember, slut, Rednecks made you a Millionaire!”

Anyone saying that about a public figure is going to find it difficult to walk into work the next day.
