It's the EFL Cup. It should be for EFL members not PL clubs whether they are in UEFA competition or not. In my very humble opinion.

If I was chairman of an EFL club, Id be pretty pissed off none of the EFL clubs have much chance of getting to the semis never mind the final. And even if an EFL club did win it, the FA would likely not submit them for a Europa League place.

Im pretty sure since 2010 when Villa a Championship club got to the final, the FA said they wouldnt submit them for a European place if they or subsequent Championship clubs won it.

Wigan got relegated and got to play in the Europa league the following year.

The idea of excluding teams that qualify for Europe is a cracking idea. Makes sense on so many levels, as funny as it is seeing Newcastle and Everton never win anything it would be good for the game to have those type of clubs win this trophy.

Funny how united fans say they've been 'World Champions' twice, once winning the Intercontinental Cup and once the enlarged competition we just won. Yet they say because we havent won the PL, we havent have been Champions of England and the 'score' is 13 - 0 to them? Nobs.

Some of us would be saying the same if the roles were reversed . Couldn’t give two fucks tbh . Leicester on Thursday is all that matters right now

When the PL broke away from the FL there was an agreement that Clubs would compete in the League Cup. It has come to mean little to Clubs with bigger fish to fry (it was important 30 years ago) but it remains a useful earner for many EFL Clubs who can generate crucial income by playing a top PL side (even with a weakened side).

We need to recognise its value to the wider football community before top PL sides bin it.

Liverpool have asked the Premier League to reconsider the ruling that forbids them from wearing the world champions' badge on their kit during games.

The Reds were crowned Club World Cup champions on Saturday night in Qatar after a 1-0 win over Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo, with Roberto Firmino's extra-time goal settling the final at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.

As a result of the victory, Liverpool are now entitled to wear a golden FIFA Champions badge on their shirts.

However, because of the different set of administrative rules for each competition, they might not be seen on strips in every tournament that Jurgen Klopp's side are involved in.

UEFA will permit the Champions League holders to sport the badge on their shirts in Europe's premier competition this season and next as a result of their success in Qatar.

Premier League stipulations, though, mean that a formal application would be required to register anything different on existing kits worn in domestic matches for the remainder of the season. As of yet, that request has not been granted by the governing body.

That means the golden badges would not be seen until the Reds resume European action against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital on February 18.

Liverpool are hoping that decision is reversed and they are permitted to wear the badges that signify the club's first-ever victory in the Club World Cup.

The ECHO understands the club have asked the Premier League to re-think the ruling so that the Reds can have the symbol on their kits for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking last week, a spokesperson for FIFA  told Liverpoolfc.com:  "As per the usage guidelines, the winning team can wear the FIFA World Champions Badge from the day it becomes champions up to and including the final of the next edition of the tournament."

They confirmed only the club's first team may wear the badge, adding: "The badge may only be used on the current official team playing shirts.

"That means that the FIFA World Champions Badge may not be used on previous [or] historical versions of the team shirts, training jerseys, tracksuits, training tops or any other products."

The fume going on by mainly city, united and chelsea fans on the newspaper sites about our application, is a joy to behold!

FIFA's statement also means the club cannot sell replica shirts with this badge on it.

We have been given permission from the Premier League to wear the gold badge for one premier league game, home against Wolves.

This of course is dependent on us actually receiving the badges. They should try DHGate online, I picked up a few on Saturday for 70p a pop.

I still like the League Cup and would  ever turn my nose up at winning it rather than winning nothing.

The prize money isn't that good for actually winning the trophy but a draw against a Premier League team and a live game on sky can mean clubs like Bury etc stay in business.

We've won it more than anyone else, so I think of it as ours - and I want to keep it that way.
