Just my opinion, but it's not Achterberg's fault that Karius throws the ball to an attacker's feet, or drops the ball in the net, or puts a direct goal-kick out behind him for a corner.

Every goalkeeper he has coached, from Reina on, has got progressively worse under his tutelage. In no area of keeping have Karius, Mignolet, Ward or any of the others made any improvement at all.

No amount of coaching can turn Mignolet or Karius into decent keepers. If either of them were at for example Man City they would have been bombed out much, much sooner.

I had forgotten about that goal kick, it shouldnt even be possible.

Yep, he did eventually manage to oust Forster from the starting line-up. But, he was also third choice at Palace behind Hennesey and Mandanda before that. Wouldn't go near any PL keeper personally. That said, Matt Ryan is the best of the (targetable) lot in my mind.

Yeah, I came to this conclusion myself a few weeks back. Nobody from the PL, though Ryan is probably the best option.

I did not see him play much in the championship last year but wasn't he really shit last time Villa were in the Premiership?

He was ok, but very raw. He was Villa's best player in the play-off's. I don't see him in the same light as some of their fans do. They seem to think Chubby Hamster will coach him into being the next Eriksson.

I hope the hamster believes this and Eriksson gets sold.

You're in denial if you don't think Acterberg is causing it. Mignolet statistically was ranked one of the best keepers in the league for 2 years in a row before he signed for us. He was actually ranked the best in his final year at Sunderland. First year with us he's outside the top 10. After three years working with Acterberg, Myhill and Rob Elliot are better than him.

Karius was one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga before he arrived. People on here were saying "this is the keeper that will solve our goalkeeping problems". He was perceived by the German media as the heir to Manual Neuer's throne. Arrives here. Bottom 5 in the league pretty much consistently ever since.

Pepe Reina, one of the best keepers we've ever had. Went to complete shit under Acterberg. He moves to Napoli and starts working with Rafa again and suddenly finds his form.

The problem is the coach. He doesn't instill any confidence in them. They go out on the field with a rabbit in the headlights look on their faces every game. They show no leadership qualities. That's all on the coach.

If a striker is petrified to shoot and and shits himself in every 1 v 1 you'd say, "who's doing the attacking drills for this guy?". There would be repercussions. Why is there no accountability when it comes to the keepers?

Aye, great post, Boss.

Seems to be a blind spot for Klopp. Who was the keeping coach at Mainz or Dortmund? Were they any good?

Wolfgang De Beer was at Dortmund when Klopp was there. He's spent the majority of his life at Dortmund. Weidenfeller was always considered the weakness in Dortmund's first eleven. It's been a problem area for a while.

With all due respect I dont think you can blame a coach for the fuck ups we have seen for these two clowns we have in goal - they are both fundamentally shit and have to proven to be after a massive hike in expectancy and arriving at a huge club like ours .

The fuck ups Karius made showed just how totally inept he is when under pressure - he was fucking up in his first pre season games after his arrival - all this talk of him having a really good spell after klopp made him number 1 was just wishful thinking he was never going to be a top goalie

I still can’t get my head around Rodgers wanting Benteke with the way he sets up his teams to play.

That was the summer when we were treated to a deluge of impressive articles and posts which patiently explained that Bentenke was not, in fact, a target man.
