PS3 just died

I've had my PS3 for 4 years now and lately it was riddled with problems but today it just committed suicide. It turned itself off and when I tried to turn it back on it went green for a second, then yellow then started flashing red.

 

Now, I was planning on buying a new one on my birthday (which is tomorrow, woo) so I am not fussed about fixing it but I have Skyrim in the disk tray and I cannot get it out. I've tried doing the trick with the fan where you press the eject button whilst the power is off then turn it on with my finger still on the eject button but that doesn't work.

 

Any ideas how to get the game out?

Supposedly the fan trick doesn't work every time and it depends what model you have whether it will work at all.

I'm gonna need screwdrivers and shit then. May just take it to a shop in Leeds and see if they can extract it.

 

Anyone in the Leeds area know the best place to go?

If you ring Sony they will take your old one away and replace it with the same model for £120. Or that the cost for mine a few years ago. They then send you the disk back and within 6 weeks.

 

Or you could smash the thing up.

Morrisons have a deal on where you could potentially get a new 320gb for about £150, so I am led to believe.

Already got a new one on its way pal, just want the game out. So, short of attempting DIY on something I have no idea how to open, I'm gonna have to take it to a shop.

 

Just wanted to know if there were any alternatives.

I had shitloads but tbh it was full of games I didn't play. My new one arrived today but all I want is my Skyrim back!

 

Starting all over again doesn't seem a bad idea though.

They're easy to take apart, you will need a torx screwdriver though. Plenty of videos on youtube on how to do it.

 

I'm finally getting around to replacing the laser in my old fat 40GB that is used for stolen games, dead easy.

 

Taking the hard drive out couldn't be easier either, no tools required. You don't even need to take it apart, there's a slot at the bottom of the PS3 on the fat ones which yours should be at 4 years old.

There is a screw for the hard drive pal I've checked.

 

Cheers for all the advice lads, gonna head into Leeds tomorrow and see if I can buy the gear or if it is easier to get it fixed by someone else (I'm a lazy bastard).
