Who would you sell?

Which players in our squad do you think we should move on?

 

I can't think of anyone who i'd definitely sell. They are all decent players, or players we could never get a good fee for so selling them in pointless.

Probably have a clearer picture of who has a future, and what sort of players we need to bring in, by the summer.

I've not given up on Johnson yet. He needs time to establish a partnership with Skrtel and Henderson before we make that call. Skrtel is more rangy so will provide more support for him than Carra did, and Henderson seems to want to be deeper and narrower which should provide Johnson plenty of opportunities to overlap. They need time though.

Johnson is the obvious one, simply because he is really a wing back in a 352, so beloved in Germany, but not here.

 

He is a luxury in a 442, and does not have the discipline to play a conventional full back- which is why Chelsea ( and Clarke) got shot.

 

Its frustrating because he is a good player, and a good footballer, he is just not a top quality full back. If we were short in midfield there would be case, but we are awash with them.

I think he's one of our better players. But I wouldn't be all that surprised if he was sold next summer.

Stewart Downing for me, he's not going to get any better. He's also going to be 28 next summer, so the longer we persist with him the less we'll get back for him. I know its not going to happen, but I can always hope.

But he's on ridiculous wages isn't he? Like £80k a week? Which leads me to agree with you. If we were actually playing him, it wouldn't be a problem. But those wages to play in the Carling Cup? Nah. He hasn't even made the matchday 18 most weeks, so even though there probably wouldn't a resale fee - time to get rid.

I agree(I'd add Kelly,Flanagan and Robinson to that) , but it's meaningless if we don't get rid of the fraud in charge. There are loads of great managers who would crawl over broken glass for the job.

Johnson's an obvious one because he's a quality player who could be sold for a decent amount and we're blessed in that area with Kelly and Flanagan.

 

Agree on Maxi, too, if we're not playing him.

I think Jonjo might be the one to go in January if anyone does go, but only if the fee is right. Pacheco as well, since I can't see him working his way back through the reserves into the first team. Other than that, I can't really see us doing much in the January window as we've only had this squad of players for a few months.
