We could realistically improve on every player except Suarez, Gerrard, Enrique, Reina and Johnson imo.

What? Kenny decides that the £70m he spent on Downing, Henderson and Carroll was a waste and we should sell them and buy better players?

That isn't anything close to my definition of "realistic"

I'm not saying that Downing is the best left-winger around, or worth £20m, but it isn't realistic to suggest he will be sold and "improved upon" because he won't be.

I'd say theoretically we could improve in every player! Don't mean to be pedantic Paul, but I think most teams can!

City certainly don't have the best keeper, nor the best full backs, no the best centre halves and they don't have the best two centre mids.

For me, at the end of the season I would be looking at Kuyt and Martin or Daniel at the back.

If there are good 10 million plus bids for Johnson, and possibly Lucas I would also listen to them.

Well, I would agree that anyone would be an improvement on Henderson playing RM, but I don't think Kenny bought him to play there long-term, and it would be very unlikely that we cashed in on him after only one season.

Same goes for Downing. He cost us £20m, so we're not likely to get that back for a player approaching 28, and who would you suggest we buy instead?

I agree we could have invested the £80m we spent on Carroll, Henderson, Adam and Downing far more wisely, but what's done is done and I can't see Kenny turfing out two of his major summer signings after only a season.

I can't see it happening either (Downing and Henderson being replaced), but to say Lucas is easier to replace than Downing or Henderson is ridiculous in my opinion, seeing as Henderson hasn't been that great on the right so far and Downing has been pretty anonymous in most games bar a couple of decent shots/crosses.

If he had said the position in the midfield most likely to be upgraded on is Lucas' position, then I would've agreed, as I can't see us trying to sign an attacking minded centre mid to play in Gerrard or Adam's position and I can't see us replacing Henderson on the right or Downing on the left, even then I don't see us signing a defensive mid either as Kenny seems to rate Lucas pretty highly and looks like wanting to keep him for the long term (giving him the captaincy against Stoke 2nd half and trying to get the fans to make a song for him etc).

I asked who would you sell. Not Kenny.

And them players could definitely be improved upon. I wouldn't sell them, though. Just commenting on people saying Lucas is the easiest player to upgrade.

It's not a thread about selling only "new" players. The likes of Kuyt, Johnson and Lucas have also been mentioned.

And there's a transfer window in January. In which we've famously lost players before.

I was talking about 'all' of the players. I'd give the squad to at least the summer, to allow them to gel together.

My opening post was mostly a positive post that we don't have any poor players.

Given that our last two league finishes match the worst that we have experienced for 17 years I think that your faith in the strength of our squad is misplaced.

The OP was a good one. We are no longer trading in the transfer market from a position of league and financial primacy.

Shrewd purchases AND disposals are part of the current reality.

Heh! I was more 'forgiving' than most in regards to those three misfits.

I actively wanted us to sign Paulson so I am not point scoring, just pointing out that just because you signed in the summer doesn't mean you wait a year before admitting you made a mistake.

However Downing, Henderson and Caroll are not mistakes

Do you mean Poulsen?

Is uncle Woy your actual real uncle?
